Real Adventures - Wild Horses2
I have to agree that the controls are difficlut, especially on tasks where you are required to canter in a twisty pattern. I completed the game within 2 days and found that some of the challenges were a bit too easy.

The gameplay can be a bit jerky in places and that graphics are ok. All challenges say you can choose the horse you can play on but once you've accepted the challenge you can't change horse until the challenge has been completed, which I didn't like.

All in all an ok game but would not recommend for a real horsey lover.

For someone who likes horsy games to have a storyline4
The basic plot is that you work with a horse trainer who feels that one of the horses he deals with is being mistreated in some way, and that something suspicious is going on. You then go to four locations around the world in search of the horse in order to rescue it and find out about its past...

Good points:
- The scope of the game is amazing (considering the size of the card) in that there are 5 large 3D locations, with a bit of scenery, that you can ride around in.
- There are also many characters, though none are especially deep (as you'd expect).
- You can in whatever direction you like, which is new for me in a horse game on the DS!
- The background music changes with each country.
- You can ride many different horses (maybe 20 altogether?) You can win them if you do well in certain missions.
- Another big plus for me is that you don't have to take care of them, which I often find tedious in horse games when you could be riding!
- You can change horses in locations to use the best one for the situation if you don't need to use a specific one.
- There's always a compass arrow on the screen showing you where to go next
- You can turn the volume for the background down in comparison to that of the effects
- It's quite cheap (at least on amazon)
- Timed missions have very generous time limits, I dodn't have to do any repeats (except the fire/canter one)

Not so good points:
- I'll admit, I also found the controls for this game hard at first - you increase/decrease speed using the up/down arrows and steer using the stylus. Luckily, there were some helpful tips in the instructions.
- The horse's stamina runs out during canter/gallop so you have to stop and wait for it to recover (very similar to Pippa Funnell: Stud Farm Inheritance)
- It's quite easy to get bored when you have to travel crazily long distances sometimes, I think they could have been shorter and nothing would have been lost. Training for dressage on a long trek is also a new one to me!
- Sometimes travelling seems to be a 'dot-to-dot' thing, why can't the compass just point to your destination?
- You can get a bit stuck if you try to go straight up a slope/through water.
- When your horse gets too stressed, the way to calm it is to try and keep all these floating circles in the centre of the screen by dragging them.
- All the show jumps/cross country jumps are the same.
- When you're in a mission, you can't change your horse. It's also irritating when you want to change your horse (or check out your new one) when you're ages away from the stables!
- You have no choice over the storyline, you just follow it where it goes.
- The graphic quality isn't amazing in comparison to Pony Friends/Horse Life, but it's not bad considering the scope of the game and the freedom the player has.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game. It was fairly short, as they always seem to be, and really quite easy. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who wants a challenge or wants to compete, as the competing is just a side feature and really isn't done well either. I think this is best for someone who doesn't want too much from a horsy game but would like a bit of storyline and adventure instead of continuous competing - though don't expect too much from the graphics!
I would advise buying Horse Life or Pony Friends first before considering this game. If you're a fan of the Willowbrook stables games, this is a fairly good DS equivalent.

Tips (potential spoilers):
- Instead of dragging the stylus to steer, as I did, just hold it down on the side of the screen you want to steer too til you face the right direction. The further away from the chracter it is, the faster you'll turn.
- As long as you're moving at the speed the game wants as you go over the red circle, you'll get points for it. This is great for timed tasks because you can rush between points, or for jumping/fire canter bit because slowing down means you get a better look.
- When you go to get Lingo with the Irish man, you don't have to lead him home - riding means you can follow the Irish guy and get through the water without freaking out much much easier.
- Riding over all the red circles might not be necessary.
- Don't try to go straight over a mountain/dune.
- Ride the horse with the best stamina, since you do alot of travelling.

this is quite a good game!4
I am nine and got this as a present from my Mum.

I think that this games is good and I will now say the good and bad points of this game.
First, the good bits are that you go to different countries and unlock horses after you complete most tasks (I don't know how many tasks there are). You also get to meet loads of people who teach you things.

The annoying part is when you have to ride over a long bit of country, you are timed and may tire your horse out and then you have to stop, whitch takes up a bit of time. If you don't finish in the time, you have to do the task again!

But despite all this, it is quite a good game so I would recommend this to someone aged 10 or below.
