Artists not as heard on TV
The title of this album promises much to the lover of classical sounds on the goggle box but, on loading the CD into the player, it soon becomes apparent to the listener that their expectations will not be met. This is not a soundtrack album and should not be viewed as such. The instrumental pieces are competently even well performed but, as soon as the vocal parts commence, one realises one is not actually listening to the performances associated with the programme, advertisement or movie. In the contemporary music genre, one would call this a 'cover' album. The implications for the older classical pieces are minor as the musicians (whoever they may be, as they are not credited) perform well and the sound quality is excellent. However, "Vangelis" is not the same without Vangelis! His 1492 piece has been arranged for an orchestra and, clearly, a different choir sings. I have the Band Of Brothers soundtrack album and the version of the main theme on this release lacks the passion and emotional influence of the original performance. Karl Jenkins' Adiemus suffers from the use of alternative vocal talent to that we have seen on Classic FM TV and heard on Classic FM. This is a pleasant album in some respects but has left me disappointed with my purchase. If you want to hear the music "as heard on TV", my advice is to seek out the original artists and orchestras instead.
That sounds familiar, I wonder where I can buy it on CD?
Once again this is a helpful Classic FM 2CD release, aimed this time at those who hear a piece of TV advert music and like it, but haven't a clue who wrote it.
The tracks generally expand on the shorter pieces heard during the advert, and although some are not by the same artist as the TV version, they are by no means inferior and the difference will often be unnoticeable.
Whether the version of music is the 'best one' is largely irrelevant, for these are all good performances and recordings of some of classical music's finest and most popular masterpieces.
This is a great chance for those unfamiliar to classical music to get to know a little bit more, even if it's just the composers name and title of the piece, for it can be infuriating to hear a bit of music and not have a clue where to look to buy the CD and enjoy it at leisure.
'So THAT'S who wrote that piece of music' is a guaranteed response to many of the tracks on this compilation.
Great music from ads and TV
This two disc CD from Classic FM contains forty-two tracks that have been made famous because they were featured either as adverts or as theme music for various TV shows. It is true that these are not, for the most part, the pieces from the various sources, rather the music included on this album are the full pieces of classical music that they have been edited and adapted from (e.g. the CD includes the proper Liberty Bell piece rather than the edited version used by Monty Python). Despite the lack of the original pieces this is still a great album with many great tracks and is of a quality you would expect from Classic FM.
