Product Description

Michael Moore is the world's most successful and influential documentary filmmaker. He has produced a series of satirical documentaries beginning with Roger & Me, which explored how General Motors plant closings and layoffs devastated his hometown of Flint, Michigan. He followed this with Bowling for Columbine which mocked America's gun culture and brought Moore to the world s attention. His last film Fahrenheit 9/11 was his most controversial to date and charted President Bush's skewed handling of the war on terrorism. Scheduled for release later this year in October is Sicko, which takes aim at America's health care system. Manufacturing Dissent is a documentary that seeks to separate fact, fiction and legend. Two Canadian filmmakers track Michael Moore on tour during the release of the explosive Fahrenheit 9/11, chronicling the politically supercharged climate in America that has fuelled Moore's transition from filmmaker to icon of the political left. The film raises interesting questions about Moore's research, filmmaking and his presentation of the truth. The DVD contains previously unseen material and includes a section on TV Nation Moore s TV show from 1990's.

Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
Michael Moore has made a career by turning his camera on prominent people and asking them discomfiting questions about hot-button political issues in which they're involved. He’s made them squirm and look foolish, extracting some striking answers along the way. Now the tables have turned, and Moore has become the subject of a film that questions his tactics and approach to political film-making. This documentary, made by two Canadians, Debbie Melnyk and Rick Caine, former fans of the politically charged Moore, takes a critical look at his techniques, from his editing process to his use of "out of context" information. They offer a different side of the man who has been hailed by the left as a pivotal force in swaying the public’s opinions about the key issues of the day.

Customer Reviews

Excellent opposing view5
Manufacturing Dissent is a well-balanced documentary that covers Michael Moore's rise to fame and examines in some detail the dubious techniques he uses when producing his "documentaries".

Unlike some other critical views of Moore, this is not a right-wing hatchet job, it actually started life as a sympathetic view. Following Moore on his 2004 "slacker" tour of the USA, the Canadian filmakers try and fail to get an interview. The tour is interspaced with interviews with many friends and co-workers from Moore's past, both friendly and less sympathetic.

Whether you agree with Michael Moore's views or not, you should watch Manufacturing Dissent. If you don't like Moore it will give you plenty of ammunition; if you like him it will pose some difficult questions.

BORING!!!1
it was the biggest waste of money!

it is clearly an anti-Moore film,
with no point of existance,
other than to bore to me to death
and critisize Michael Moore
