Editorial Reviews
CD Description
With a selection of MOBO and BRIT awards to her name, Jamelia is one of the UK's most successful female R&B singers. 'Superstar - The Hits' is a collection of singles released throughout her successful time with Parlophone Records. The Birmingham-born diva is known for raising issues of domestic violence and real life struggles in her music, while also being able to celebrate the more positive and fun side of life. Tracks include 'Thank You' and 'Superstar'.
Customer Reviews
Pointless and superfluous...but the odd killer tracks can be found
I'll pause momentarily whilst you laugh.
But this is serious; this really is a "hits" collection from Jamelia. Of course she's had 7 top hits in her time, but really the fact that there's no new tracks, no new artwork or, well, no new anything on this collection should be proof enough that this is merely a chance for her ex-record company to make a last bit of money off their old employee.
It doesn't even include all her "hits".
Still you have to give some credit where it's due. Beware Of The Dog was the best number 1 that never was in 2006 and Superstar is at least a memorable track. No More, with it's Golden Brown sample, was another winner (despite failing to trouble the top 40 this year) and I've always thought See It In A Boy's Eye's is a great tune; and yes, I am aware of the Chris Martin connection with that one!
On the merits of the songs alone, this isn't too bad at all, but its difficult as a listener to avoid the fact that it's compiling a career that there's no real need to compile.
The Hits?
Not sure if this album is really relevant, most of these hits are on Jamelia`s Thank You album and No More wasn`t actually a top forty hit, it only reached number 43!! The Thank You album should have got a re-re-re-release!! As it has been out so many times everyone, like myself, surely must have everything already? 11 tracks is a bit on the short side as most artists/groups have loads more and probably wait `til they`ve released a few more albums before releasing a hits album, ya toooo quick Jamelia!!
It's good but it's not right!
It's a shame this "best of" has been rushed by the record company due to the fact that the last album "Walk with me" didn't do as well as "Thank you" even thought "Walk with you was a much stronger album. (Not a bad tack on it)Every track on this album is great, but the reason it didn't get 5 stars is because with just 11 tracks,it is a little too short. However saying that,it is worth it just to hear "money" which was Jamelia's first top 5 hit from 2000.
