Released for the first time on DVD, Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl presents some of the Python lads' finest, funniest (and foulest) work. Cut from their four night stand at the Hollywood Bowl in 1980, this DVD is jam-packed with sketches, songs and a host of their finest gags from their TV series.

Numbers include the sexually confused lumberjack, the Ministry of Silly Walks, the Argument Clinic and the exploding balladeer. Some of the group's funnier short-film pieces are featured as well, including the International Philosophy Match (Germany vs. Greece) and Terry Gilliam's animated pieces. Monty Python aficionados will enjoy seeing the lads do their thing for a live crowd, and there's a fantastic rapport with the audience. The sketches are looser and less hermetic than those in the Monty Python TV shows or films. Aside from the unusual setting, there's nothing particularly revelatory about Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl... But for Python fans and fanatics--and they are legion--this won't matter a jot. --Nick Poppy

Synopsis
Hilarious coverage of a unique live Monty Python show in Los Angeles.

Classic Python5
I have always enjoyed this live concert along with the Drury Lane concerts. It included new work and is so clever and absolutely hilarious, even after all these years. Now a DVD is out and what can I say, it's brilliant. It is refreshing to see another aspect of these 'Hollywood Bowl' concerts and see the Python team adapting their sketches to an American audiance. A lot of this is missed on the audio recordings as there is so much visual aspect to this concert. Fantastic!

The best piece of Python material since their Flying Circus5
From beginning to end this live show is hilarious. It is a mix of the old and new - the old stuff is just as funny as it was when I first watched it and the new bits are every bit as good.

Live at the Hollywood Bowl seems to be a forgotten masterpiece. A collection of brilliant songs include Sit on my Face, I've Got Two Legs and the Antiracist Song. (and obviously The Lumberjack Song, but that goes without saying). There is also a very clever number called the Philosopher's Song as well as two numbers from Neil Innes.

One criticism is that a couple of times I thought the language went a bit too far into 'tasteless'. This, however, is nick-picking... or is it nit-picking?

I suppose there's only one more thing to say - BUY IT!!!!

After a long wait and a very dead Parrot.....5
....Its finally arrived, I own this on Cd but to see it is another thing altogether. The funniest thing "Live" I have ever watched.
This was the guys at their best live in America and plus it has the "Nudge Nudge" sketch which was a firm favorite of Elvis himself.
Now stop reading this and order it at once....
