Manufacturer's Description
It’s the small iPod with one very big idea: Video. Now the world’s most popular music player lets you enjoy TV shows, movies, video podcasts, and more. The larger, brighter display means amazing picture quality. In five eye-catching colours, iPod nano is stunning all around.
Overview
An anodized aluminum top and polished stainless steel back. Five eye-catching colours. A larger, brighter display with the most pixels per inch of any Apple
display, ever. iPod nano stirs up visual effects from the outside in.
And it’ll wow you for hours. Play up to 5 hours of video or up to 24 hours of audio on a single charge (1). All that staying power and a wafer-thin, 6.5-mm profile makes iPod nano one small big attraction.
Cover Flow
If a picture says a thousand words, think of what all the album art in your collection might say. With Cover Flow on iPod nano, you can flip through your music to find the album you want to hear. Use the Click Wheel to browse music by album cover, then select an album to flip it over and see the track list.
Music
Use the Click Wheel to adjust volume, navigate songs, browse in Cover Flow, or explore the Music menu by playlist, artist, album, song, genre, composer, and more. Want to mix things up? Click Shuffle Songs. iPod nano makes your music look as good as it sounds, thanks to its bright colour display.
Movies
Buy movies from the iTunes Store and you can sync them to your iPod nano to watch anywhere, anytime. Up to 5 hours of video playback means you can watch two movies back to back.1 And for your viewing pleasure, the 320-by-240-pixel display â with a whopping 204 pixels per inch â is 65 percent brighter than before.
TV Shows
There’s always something good on iPod nano. Browse thousands of episodes of your favorite TV shows on the iTunes Store, then sync them to your iPod nano. Watch last night’s episodes this morning, or buy a whole TV series and play a pocket-size marathon.
Podcasts
The iTunes Store features thousands of free video and audio podcasts, including indie favorites and offerings from such big names as ABC News, Comedy Central, ESPN, PBS, NPR, and many more. Browse and subscribe to podcasts, then sync them to your iPod nano. You can even play video podcasts on TV using an optional Apple component or composite AV cable.
Audiobooks
The digital shelves of the iTunes Store are stocked with thousands of audiobooks â including exclusives like the entire Harry Potter series â so you can catch up on your reading wherever iPod nano takes you. iPod nano even recognizes where you left off reading and bookmarks your place.
Games
Put hours of fun at your fingertips. iPod nano comes with three games â Vortex, iQuiz, and Klondike â and you can download more from the iTunes Store. All iPod games are designed specifically for the iPod interface. And all of them look great on the 2-inch colour display.
Photos
iPod nano holds up to 7,000 photos you can sync from your Mac or PC via iTunes. Use the Click Wheel to scroll through photo thumbnails. To see a photo full screen, click the center button. You can even view your photo slideshows â complete with music and transitions â on a TV using an optional Apple component or composite AV cable.
Extras
Calendars, contacts, and a screen lock appear in the Extras menu, along with a few more handy items. Take the world clock, for example. Spin the Click Wheel to choose different clocks for cities all over the world. For workouts, use the built-in stopwatch to log your best times.

Customer Reviews
Looks nice, but very unhelpful
Although I have the most up-to-date version of iTunes on my Mac, what the iPod description doesn't tell you is that you need a certain version of Mac's OS X system in order to use the iPod. This important piece of information is buried on Mac's website and not in the product description here on Amazon or with the iPod itself. So when I plugged my iPod in, eager to begin downloading to it right away, I found I had to spend another couple of hours updating various other pieces of software first. Not what you want after spending £100+
In fact, the instructions that come with the nano are next to useless.
On the plus side, when you (finally) get it working it is very nice and is probably worth 4 stars - I just felt I had to knock one off for the frustration
Somewhat frustrating (iTunes)...
I bought this for my daughter (11) as she was keen on it. Despite the 'glamour' of iTunes and Apple itself (and being PC literate), we find navigating transfers (music and movies) really quite frustrating, with required 'ejections' etc and songs not synching properly in an intuitive sense. It is surprisingly much less intuitive than I expected (-iRiver's Drag and Drop is SO much simpler and effective). After several days, we still find video transfers erratic and had to do manual transferring to get it onto the iPod (then we lost what was already synced, though warned somewhere). Moreover, I got Apple's "white screen of death" at the very beginning and had to reset the iPod to solve the defect (losing our first data). There is a measly manual with the packaging so you have to get onto the web to sort out your problems.
The much promoted iTunes Store (which seems to be much easier to access from within iTunes than our own iPod) goes through the purchase procedures before telling me that downloads are not possible for my country (Sri Lanka)... waste of time! It also asks for credit card details (though I did not purchase anything) which was unexpected; I only wanted to set up an account to try out the Store for my child without entering card data or having this as default in case she accidentally ordered something.
The hardware is definitely "sexy", and it is a neat player. But it is a pain that it can only be charged when your PC is switched on - we did not know that at purchase or installation. Battery power is also poor, a few hours on audio (many MP3 players do much better).
Overall, not impressed despite the lovely looks (and fragility) of this well known gadget. There does not appear to be any continuing defect as such on the machine; our frustration seems more on the software. I would prefer iRiver in most respects (which is also much more 'open' - less proprietory limitations - in what it reads and transfers), much as I would like to like this device.
AHHH
I love my ipod. I use it every day. It got me through all my revision and i dont know how i lived without it. But this week it has stopped working on me and im fairly sure that this is the worst day of my life. Can anyone tell me how to fix my ipod?? It wont turn on and if it does, it turns off again before i can do anything with it. It sometimes wont even turn off!!! Its really confusing and i would love to know if there is anyone who knows where i can get it fixed?? in Northern Ireland. This is the most amazing bit of kit and the most used Christmas present anywhere!! I need it!! Please Help me!!
