Try it if you havn't already.........4
Welcome to Rapture, the underwater City with a bunch of crazies ruling the roost!

Story overview: You crash land in the middle of the ocean, find an entrance to the underwater city and get involved with the locals. Things go from bad to worse and you're trying to regain your freedom.

Bioshock offers some jaw dropping visuals and novel ways of killing people. There are standard weapons e.g. guns, machine guns crossbows etc, although the most fun is had with your mutant powers. These include things like 'iceblast' which allows you to freeze bad guys and beat them into a thousand tiny pieces with your wrench. Theres loads more but that was my favourite.

While playing it I found myself stopping to take in the surroundings and marvel at how beautiful the game looks. Water effects are the best I have seen.

You follow a set path throughout the game and are often prompted by an arrow which helps guide you on the correct path to take. It doesn't feel linear unlike COD:WAW (wtf). It actually feels like theres plenty of places to explore.

My only problem with Bioshock is that after the initial wow factor the gameplay becomes a little repetative. Sometimes it feels like you are killing the same individual over and over again. The fun part is you start to kill people in more inventive ways. Without this ability it would get really boring.

I would still recommend everyone give Bioshock a go. Its fun while it lasts, although there is no replay value. It offers alternate endings depending on your actions throughout the game, which means you might want to play it again. I just watched the multiple endings on Youtube. Could'nt be arse doing it for a few achievements.

Shame there's no multiplayer, although I'm not sure how good they could make it. COD4 still rocks too much, so anything else would need to be outstanding.

Great setting, weak gameplay3
Beautiful graphics, wonderfully atmospheric setting, but you can't avoid the fact that the gameplay is extremely weak. Once the novelty of the setting and the idea of genetic upgrades wear off, you're left with a game that although using the Unreal engine, doesn't really make very good use of it, and underneath all the decoration, is some fairl weak first-person-shooter combat.
Exploring is easy, just follow an on-screen arrow to where you need to go, you'll rarely be lost.
But combat is what keeps a first person shooter playable in the long term and here it's the worst aspect of the game - you know when a game gets combat right, such as Gears Of War or Half Life 2 - the weapons have the right feeling of weight to them as they fire, the enemies recoil satisfyingly from a good hit, they try to avoid your shots, attack you in a strategic manner - alas this game gets it all wrong - the enemies generally just run straight at you (admittedly they're all suppposed to be deranged mutants, so it fits the story, but doesn't make for interesting combat), the weapons have no feeling of weight, it feels more like just keeping the aiming cursor on them while you hit fire to trigger the "fire" animation and reduce their health until they go into the "die" animation - it's not strategic or satisfying or immersive and is far less fun than even games as old as Quake II - in fact I don't think I'm exagerating to say that the weapons and combat in Doom were probably a bit more satisfying than this.
However, if you want a truly beautiful setting, and good story - it's all here - but the gameplay isn't something to be enjoyed and savoured, it's more of a chore you have to go through to unlock the story bit by bit - unlike a really playable game, you won't go through a section and think "Wow that was fun, I'll enjoy replaying that bit next time around", you'll be thinking "I'm glad that bit's out of the way, now I can see some more of the story and beautiful design." I can imagine a lot of people will find it worthwhile to play through once to see the story, but I can't imagine many people at all would ever want to play through this a 2nd time. It would have worked better as a movie.

Would you kindly...5
Lets be honest, there is not usually a time or a place to rip the "evil" from the head of a small child, but here is one.
You start the game on a plane with no idea who you are or what the hell is happening, then it crashes and everything goes horribly wrong.
I wont ruin the rest of the story but suffice to say it is weirder that a chipmunk, in space, on helium.
In a brilliant master stroke the player is given control over basic environmental powers, such as fire, electricity and obviously telekenisis, wait...what?
Yup at some point in the game you get to catch grenades/rockets and fire them back at your enemies, but that is not the best bit.
The best bit is surely the enemies in the game.
Yes, they lack any kind of intelligence but damn are they weird. Splicers are basically humans on 'roids, but gone wrong. Like Arnold with a machine gun. That wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for the masks... i will leave you to find those out for yourselves. Then there are the Big Daddies. Wow, now whoever thought, "Hey lets make a creepy underwater diver into a massive monster with a chainsaw for a hand!" must really have been on something, but they are by far the best characters in the game. Cute yet dangerous, i love it!!!!
