DVD Description
Davina introduces her new fitness DVD:

"Welcome to my new High Energy Five fitness DVD. If you have seen any of my previous DVDs you will know that I love working out and these new routines have heaps of variety and lots of genius tunes to ensure that you are going to love doing them...honestly!

High Energy Five is all about losing weight and burning fat. My personal trainers Jackie and Mark Wren have devised five intensive sections, each of them around 20 minutes long. For maximum effect I would recommend that you do two sections back to back three times a week and you have the option to follow the easier or more advanced versions of the exercises depending on your own level of fitness.

Here are the sections...

Warm Up
Aerobics - Get your heart rate up and burn fat
Legs - Tremendous workout for legs and bums
Pump - Work your upper body and banish those bingo wings
Abdominals - Ultimate tummy toning
Boxing - Boxercise to firm up and improve fitness
Cool Down

Combined with a healthy, balanced eating plan, your body will reap the benefits from the workouts - mine certainly has. As ever, don't push yourself too hard if it hurts - but do persevere as it won't be long before you're up to speed.

Enjoy the DVD!"

Synopsis
Television favourite Davina McCall follows on from her previous—and exceedingly popular—exercise programmes with this all new work out.

Very efffective but personable as well5
Having had Davina's two previous DVDs I was a shade sceptical about whether or not they would be able to produce anything different - yet remarkably, they have. Yes, many of the routines are similar (Pump, for instance, is very similar to a previous DVD routine) but what makes this enjoyable is that there is enough variation so that you can choose which sections to do. Oddly enough, although the 'Pump' section in this is quite similar to the 'Pump' section in her 30 minute workout DVD I still find myself choosing between the two. Evidently there is enough difference for me to find it tough to make that choice!

As previous reviewers have pointed out there are five sections - two which I would say are more aerobic in nature (aerobics and boxing) and three focused on toning. All are very effective and due to the options you can choose to do one aerobic and one toning section, or all aerobic, or all five plus the warm up and cool down if you have the time.

One of the recurring advantages I have found with Davina's DVDs are the periods of interval training. One of my favourite sections is the 'Legs' but I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to get through each of the three routines (each about five minutes, but even then, broken down into three or four mini-sections) if I didn't know there would be an interval coming along in a minute to save me! They keep your heart rate up but give you just enough of a break, with whatever muscle toning section you are on, to be motivated to start again.

Overall, I would say that this DVD is aimed at maintaining motivation. I have had this for over a month now and using it regularly (3/4 times a week, varying the sections and occasionally using other Davina DVDs) I still find myself looking forward to my workouts. I would say if you are looking for a DVD that is either purely toning, or purely cardio some others might be more appropriate, but this is a brilliant general fitness workout which entertains at the same time. Yes, of course after the twentieth time the comments can become repetitive, but I often find myself simply using them as a sign that I'm half way through, or that the set is nearly over.

Lastly, I would say that personally I found the two trainers and one presenter format really useful. Davina is clearly in great shape but she reminds you that it has taken about a year to achieve this. In addition, the trainers are friendly and encouraging and aren't there to make you feel inadequate! I'm still loving the fact that they've finally put a 'If you live in a flat' option to routines!

I love it !5
I am in no way sporty, haven't done any exercise for years and years. After the birth of my second child last year I had piled on the pounds and was getting miserable. The diet was going well but I realised that I needed to actually get off my backside and do some exercise so I decided that liking Davina anyway, I would try out this DVD. I have never done anything like this before. I have to say that I think it is brilliant. The weight is falling off and none of the exercises are too difficult for me. However, I have not tried pump as I don't have any weights. All the other workouts are great though. I also like the trainers.
Overall, i would definately recommend this DVD to anyone in the same boat as I was. Yay!!!!!!

Brilliant for all5
I bought this dvd last month as I made the promise to myself I was getting fit for good. I needed a decent dvd as my husband works long hours in the summer so i cant get to the gym in the evenings. After losing 4 and a half stone by healthy eating, i was unimpressed by my lack of curves, but loved my shape.
The first time I did this dvd i was impressed. The section at the start where you get to meet the trainers jackie and mark is nice to have as you can get to know them before you start.
Davina to me is a normal girl probably with the same weight issues as the rest of us, yet she's toned, fit and looks absolutely amazing, especially after 3 children!
The dvd is handy if you only have a short period of time as its split into sections, so if you fancy doing the warm up (a must) then say the boxing and then abs, then the cool down, you do that as you please.
The pump section is brilliant, once i used to hate showing my arms off, now even on cold days i get strange looks as i still wear strappy tops, love my arms and shoulders!
You get a laugh throughout the dvd too, jackie and mark are lovely, mark even insists that you only have to lift weights to your breast level, if you are topless you dont need to go so high.....
Little laughs like that make the workout seem a lot easier and you soon get through it.
I completely recommend this, no silly diets, the workouts are do able, and I am enjoying the results, much more exciting that numbers on a scale, believe me!
I think it's more realistic to have a more day to day person doing the work outs rather than some stick thin one who is clearly underweight who just wants to pose in some lycra....

It's brilliant!!
