Sandisk have created a winner
The Sandisk 4GB and 8GB U3 USB Memory Sticks are fantastic. Fact.

If you want a super-solid, ultra-rugged memory stick, why are you buying black plastic memory sticks and then complaining about them being plastic?

Buy a cruzer titanium, ironkey, or Corsair Survivor if you want a memory stick which can survive combat in Iraq.

The U3 feature is certainly not a "gimmick". The ability to function on any computer and not leave a trace of your activities is not a "gimmick", but a must have in today's information overload and data-mining society. I advise using Firefox 3 with the U3 feature.

I've seen the U3 8GB being quoted at $59.99 direct from Sandisk in America and £20 at various retailers in the UK. At £9.45 from a marketplace seller, it was a bargain. Yes, the delivery is a bit penal, but in the end it's worth it. I'm considering the 16GB at £30 from Amazon now too.

You won't regret this purchase, it does what it says on the tin.

Be aware hidden software can cause issues
I have the 4GB version and when trying to use with a photo print ordering machine - the machine couldn't load images - prob as the Cruzer tries to mount a disc image on the machine which it was probably barred from doing

even reformatting the Cruzer doesn't get to these hidden files - so I cannot make into a plain and simple storage device which just works

wish I'd gotten a different memory stick

Handy retractable case
Just to add to all the other reviews, the whole device retracts into its case protecting the USB connector. This avoids the need for a separate cover which can easily be mislaid.
