Manufacturer's Description

If you've ever wondered just how the town of Silent Hill became the eerie mess that has been seen over four previous Silent Hill games, then this new PSP title will reveal all, set as a prequel to the events that have been before.

This dedicated PSP title copes beautifully with creating the creepy feel of Silent Hill and will keep players engrossed from start to finish with the well crafted storyline, the range of enemies and puzzles to solve as well as the haunting soundtrack composed by the legendary composer Akira Yamaoka, responsible for the musical score on all of the other titles. The game follows Travis Grady, a truck driver who has become stranded in Silent Hill. Naturally, he has a few of his own demons to contend with and throughout the course of the game, both his and the town's secrets come to the fore.

The game play is still classic Silent Hill - but with tweaks and additions created specifically for the PSP. Players can now lock onto enemies to attack and will also find the control scheme changing intuitively for each situation. Players also utilise an enhanced camera designed with the PSP in mind, as well as an updated control method for more detailed exploration of the environment. There are now, 'Interactive', element where players have to hit buttons as prompted to escape enemies that have triggered the cinematic sequences.

The further into the game players get, more weapons become available plus more and more items from the surroundings can be used - however overuse of items causes them to break and wear down, which could leave players unarmed at crucial moments.

Welcome To Silent Hill...5
Anyone who remembers the first silent hill on the playstation 1 and silent hill 2 on the playstation 2 will be right at home with this new title in the great franchise. To me this feels like the ospring of the two games porting both the good and bad features to the PSP. Of course Origins brings along a few new features which really improve the game.

The first thing that i really like about this game, is its fresh, much like the other fantastic playstation 1 game emerging on PSP, syphon filter. You'll feel releaved that you dont already own a console version with better graphics and more features and for the Psp this is really something new and much needed.

The graphic quality is impressive, from the Fmv intro to the actual game and it really captures the grittiness and feel of the past titles without any loss.It feels sharper and smoother than most psp games and seems that the develops have put some real effort in to polish it for the Psp and not just ported an old copy from a previous title, for that they deserve credit.

The story is another thing that stands out for me, its an original, intreguing story with well developed characters but i wont ruin it for any would be buyers. Aparently it has a number of endings in line with the other games from the series.

For the first time on the PSP i found that the sound quality was amazing (for the psp) and was pleased to find that the guy who has done previous games made a welcomed return and too deserves all whole heap of credit for the eeriely crisp ,rich and disturbing soundtrack. A great example would be when i was in the hospital (what is it about silent hill games and hospitals?)i could hear banging pipes as well as the sound of a ventilator unit. This really added to the fear.

The contols are a bit of a let down as sometimes the dodgy camera angles from the first game make a return and this sometimes make movement and fighting a little more difficult than it should. Althought there is a camera reset button it still feels awkward. Combat to is sometimes difficult, allthough you can punch, therefore always have a emergancy weapon the actual weapons you get in game degrade over time and eventually break. You can amas a cracking arsnal of varied weapons from guns, scalpals, hammers to tv's which you can store away for later use. Another great feature is using mirrors to travel back between the normal and evil worlds.

The puzzles are sometimes challenging but i found never too difficult and the key collecting concept might be getting old but not off putting.

What i did like was that a the beginning of the game was this cool note that says that the game is best played in the dark and with headphones. Thinking this was all nonsense i gave it a go and found that it actually enhances the gameplay elements by upping the scare factor and it really improves the sound. I really recommend this for when you play, pitch balck thoughno wimps!

Overall i give this game top marks as it has more than met the standards of the original (playstation 1) version and will not disapoint any long or short term fans of the game while been a great start for any newcomers to the franchise.

With top notch graphics, sound and story this really does stand out from the crowd of dull, i already completed it on my console, PSP games and not even the bad camera angles and controls stop it from been the best game i have played on the PSP and i think it will be a long while before anything can knock it off its spot.

With christmas coming this makes an excellent choice of gift for the PSP gamer, just remember parents as with all the silent hill games "this game contains graphic scenes of violence and some scenes which people may find disterbing". One word about that 'Brilliant'.

Oh, and welcome to Silent Hill...

A great addition to Silent Hill but it's a wee bit short :-(5
I don't need to say too much about this as the first person to review this game put everything perfectly it really does feel, play and sound like the love child of silent hill 1 and 2.

The music and sound effects are once again excellent and very creepy and playing this on a small screen doesn't really make it lose any of it's scare factor (It's best played at night with headphones on for the best effect).

The graphics and animation of the main character and the twisted creatures you come across are smooth and very well done some of the best graphics seen on the psp so far and the fog effects as you explore silent hill are fantastic it just goes to show what the psp is capable off.

My only gripe is that there was no difficulty select at the beggining so the difficulty it was set at was a tad on the easy side.
And the game for me wasn't long enough I clocked in around 6 and a half hours to complete it and that was exploring a lot as well and being a silent hill fan I never wanted the game to come to its very neat conclusion.

As well as the incredible sense of horror and loss of hope that all of the silent hill games seem to portray this was no different and the story is a pretty harrowing one but as always this is one of the main focal points of the game.

I don't think this game has enough to convert anyone who doesn't like silent hill games at all but for fans of the series or survival horror in general this is an excellent addition to your collection and a great explanation of the silent hill universe giving you answers and yet more questions lol.

Buy it now you won't be disapointed.

Creepy!5
basically your a truck driver called Trevis and your trucks just driving through the road near silent Hill when you spot a little girl in a red dress. You stop to investigate and find a burning house with the burnt little girl inside it you save her and she goes to Hospital. Then your journey through the horror Of silent hill begins.

Monsters:
Nurse zombies: they wear a white nurse uniform and walk towards you in spazims.

Three headed creature: This monster is weird as it looks like a skinned cow and it uses its udders to squeeze poison out of.

puss sacks: These are people who are wrapped in a brown jelly substance and like the nurses walk towards you in spazims these are the easiest enemies in the game.

Shadows: These are normally found in dark places and carry a lamp with them when they see you they let out a loud scream a gun is the best way to defeat them, as they are too powerful for melee combat.

pryamid heads: This monster is in all silent hill games because it is powerful and will cause a lot of damage to your chracter. You normally find it killing puss sacks in distgusting ways like ripping them apart, or impaling them on knives.

Sounds: screams that make your skin crawl, noises of a creature shuffling towards you from the darkness all this on a PSP!

Graphics: probally the best graphics Ive seen for my PSP so far his expression changes realistically and everything from a button in a lift to a huge sky scraper looks top notch for the PSP.

Gameplay: choose anything around you to bash your zombies in a dead rising way, collect guns to obliverate your enemy in any perticular fashion .

Overall: this truly is a great invention and scares you even on a small PSP screen, I don't dare think about what Silent hill: homecoming is like on PS3! This is a whole lot scarier than dead rising but I suppose thats meant to be funny for sick people anyway, buy this you won't regret it!
