Customer Reviews

A noticeable improvement over the cx300's5
First of all I didn't buy these from Amazon but needed to write a review
somewhere.

This came with a ton of accessories - A carrying pouch, a clip, earbuds
galour, a cable winder and a volume control.I intially thought that
these were cx300s and the price increase was for all the extras - but no.

I noticed the difference in sound straight off.The bass is more deeper
and fuller, the treble is crispier AND you can turn the volume up loud
with no distortion.A pleasure to listen to.

The cable is of adequate length and seems to be made of a better material
than the cx300s.My cx300s lasted less than a year due to cable fracture -
I hope these last longer. The volume control is small but does the job
very well.

Another thing I noticed was you got more bass with different earbuds - so
experiment with them.

If the calbe lasts then this is the best earphone in this price range.
I highly recommend them.

The Ultimate Noise Cancelling Headphones5
Having previously owned a pair of CX300's i decided to upgrade to these when they stopped working after 2 and a half years of loyal service. Immediately I noticed the sharper sound that these beauties offered, and they really come into their own when you are in a noisy location as the noise cancellation is almost total. The volume control feature is useful so that you can switch between listening to music and talking to people and as they are made by Sennheiser are very very comfortable.

I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone with a love a music

The only downside is that the pressure created in your ears to cancel foreign sounds does take a lot of getting used to, and some people comment that they cannot cope with it. I don't really understand it, but it is the main critism of these otherwise perfect headphones.

Are they worth the extra £20 than the CX300s? probably not unless you can appreciate the extra quality; these are headphones for the perfectionist

Excellent - but low build quality3
I, like a couple of the other reviewers, had a pair of the CX300's for ages (2.5 years and still going strong) and was very impressed, so when I saw that the CX500's were now very cheap (same price as I originally paid for the CX300s), I snapped them up.

At first I was extremely pleased - the sound is brighter and crisper and more punchy than the already excellent CX300's, and are leagues better than other headphones in this price range. I had some slight issues with pressure equalising in my ears when I first got them, but using different and smaller rubber tips sorted that out.

However, I quickly began to notice that the cabling between the headphone and the main cable began to look 'pinched' in places. These 'pinched' parts of the rubber then slowly started to split and the rubber then fell away, exposing the wires. The same process did not happen on the lower part of the cable, which is clearly made of a different type of rubber. I have had the exact same problem with Sony headphones in the past. My other half bought some CX500s on my recommendation, and has had the same happen to him.

The upshot is that while these headphones are still working, they have gotten the point where they need to be replaced within 6 months. Sennheiser have an excellent warranty, and I'm sure will replace them, but I'm pretty disappointed and will not be upgrading again.
