Great American Bash 2007- Good PPV
Great American Bash 2007 Review
WWE United States Championship Match- MVP vs Matt Hardy
*** As we know funny storyline at moment and this match was the start of it and what a start! A Very Good Match, Sloppy at times but good and a nice way to kick off the PPV
WWE Crusierweight Open- Chavo Guerrero vs Shannon Moore vs Jamie Noble vs Funaki vs Jimmy Wang Yang
** OK Match, it had its moments, funny ending i thought
Singapore on a cane Match- Carito vs The Sandman
* Not that good at all, fairly average the cane wasn't even used in the match which made this match a little more disapointing
WWE Women's Championship Match- Candice Michelle vs Melina
** I must admit, candice has improved a lot since debuting a couple of years ago not a bad matcb at all, i've seen better but it wasn't bad
ECW World Championship Match- John Morrison vs CM Punk
** Slightly obove average match but not by much, wasn't given enough time in my opinion but in the time they had they used it quite well
WWE Intercontinental Championship Match Umaga vs Jeff Hardy
*** Same as his brothers match, Very good and fairly fast paced which is nice to see
Texas Bullrope Match- Dusty Rhodes vs Randy Orton
* It was quite short, no RKO sadly good cowball shot to the head by orton to dusty
World Heavyweight Championship Match- Batista vs The Great Khali vs Kane
** A lot better than i expected a pretty good match, for the men involved mainly Khali of cause it was not very long for a main event match only about 8 mins
WWE Championship Match- John Cena vs Bobby Lashley
*** Very Good WWE Title Main Event, Keept it exciting never particuly boring and the crowd were very into it, they gave it a big match feel by interviewing wwe legends and who they think will win it which made it seem that this match was special.
Overall i'd say The Great American Bash was a Very Good PPV Better than i thought it would be and better than all the other bashes by a mile!
Cena/Lashley and Both the Hardys matches where very good, none of the matches were particuly bad apart from sandman/carlito which i though was a bit disapointing i'd give the Bash a 7/10
Thanks
For the first time, we TRULY had a great bash!
In the past, The Great American Bash was an event that didn't really excel. There were a few quality moments in previous Bashes, but nothing really outstanding. It's pretty much been a `meh' pay-per-view.
However, that all changed in 2007. This particular incarnation of The Great American Bash is packed with a much more consistent quality throughout, some excellent hype and investment, future stars really starting to breakout and come into their own, the seeds being sewn for much bigger things and the stars (then) on top still delivering. Although not perfect, this event is still a solid show that's well worth the money.
U.S. Championship Match
MVP (Champion) vs. Matt Hardy
MVP absolutely flew with the U.S. title, and Matt was finally starting to get his big break as a singles-wrestler. It's a quality opener with great straight-up wrestling. Matt shows just how fab a technician he is and MVP proves his excellence also. A few holes in the storytelling and a botched finish brings the mark down, but this is still terrific stuff. The fact that this is only the first chapter of a fantastic storyline makes this all the more essential watching. (8/10)
Cruiserweight Championship Open
Chavo Guerrero (Champion) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Funaki vs. Shannon Moore vs. Jamie Noble
What happened here was a travesty. It killed the Cruiserweight division and its title. And you have to wonder why the hell Vince did it! There's typical Cruiserweight excellence aplenty here, complete with fast pace and thrills...all of which are spoilt by the stupid ending that reeks of TNA booking! I mean, WHY HORNSWOGGLE?! Why not instead the terrific Jimmy Wang Yang who could have led the division to new heights of glory?! Anyway, still a fun bout, I suppose. (7/10)
Singapore Cane on a Pole Match
Sandman vs. Carlito.
This was another stupid idea. What was the point of having THIS instead of a straight-up Singapore Cane Match? The intensity could have been sweet right from the get-go and suited the Sandman much better, thus being more effective. As it is, this is just a ponderous, lifeless snore-fest. And when they finally do get the cane, it doesn't even come into play! WHY?! This doesn't make Carlito look any good, either! (3/10)
Women's Championship Match
Candice Michelle (Champion) vs. Melina
Now THIS was getting back on the right track. Candice had really improved, evolving into an outstanding wrestler. Here she justifies that putting the women's title on her was a great idea. Feuding with Melina produced some nice stuff and this was the high-point. A fast-paced, solid women's match-up with both Divas performing nice moves. A delightful contest. (6/10)
Intercontinental Championship Match
Umaga (Champion) vs. Jeff Hardy
Finally Umaga was given a chance to show the world what he could do with an Intercontinental title. Jeff's star was just continuing to shine brighter and brighter. As you'd expect, this is a David-and-Goliath story, but one that's presented and executed superbly. The first half is bogged down by too slow a pace but the latter half REALLY makes up for it with electrifying offence and Jeff making you believe he can pull off the biggest upset of 2007. Excellent rollercoaster ride. (8/10)
ECW Championship Match
John Morrison (Champion) vs. CM Punk
When former MNM member Johnny Nitro upgraded himself into the superior John Morrison, everyone started to take him more seriously. This breathed new life into the feud with Punk and made both of them bound for greatness. However, here they were still trying to find `it' in terms of chemistry and winning the fans over. A poor finish hurts things, too, but it's still a solid bout, and classic days still lay ahead. (7/10)
Texas Bull Rope Match
Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton
Orton was white hot at this stage in his career and was steam-rolling towards his WWE Championship era. The 2007 chapter of the Legend Killer's run reminds you why, as the build-up to the confrontation with the American Dream was pure gold. The bout itself gets off to a spirited start with the legend doing well and Orton carrying him nicely. Sadly though, the intensity is lost before it can even start and the match ultimately falters. This serves more for storyline purposes than anything else, but it's still gripping drama, particularly the aftermath. (6/10)
Triple Threat World Heavyweight Championship Match
The Great Khali (Champion) vs. Batista vs. Kane
Khali as WORLD CHAMPION? Well, from a business point of view...it DID make sense. Looking back at it all, his reign wasn't actually that bad, thanks to creative direction. Still, Khali is a terrible worker and bogs the quality down, but Batista and Kane work wonders and actually make the overall result rather decent. The outcome ISN'T what I wanted to see, but this is still surprisingly good. (7/10)
WWE Championship Match
John Cena (Champion) vs. Bobby Lashley
Tremendous build-up resulted in keen anticipation and an excellent match. The serious analysis of both competitors' strengths, weaknesses and accomplishments, and the opinions of various wrestling legends give this a real good feel to it all. This still stands as the greatest match in Lashley's life and he delivers a main-event calibre performance. Cena once again showed that he was the wrestler of 2007 with yet another classic battle under his belt. An astonishingly good wrestling bout that will have viewers on their feet. Match of the night. (9/10)
There are some nice extras on hand here, like Edge's Mardi Gras Celebration segment from SmackDown! (featuring Kane), and the Raw Contract Signing between Cena and Lashley, revealing more as to what happened on the road to the Bash. While there are quite a few glaring flaws, The Great American Bash 2007 is an absolutely solid pay-per-view overall. Definitely much more pros than cons to be found here. So worth the money indeed.
