Customer Reviews
A superb GPS receiver that doesn't disappoint.
I've been really impressed with my GO 520 Music Edition. It's intuitive interface, extensive list of features, and overall performance have won me over.
For the most part, the menu system is very clear and natural. I did, however, find that a couple of the options I wanted to turn off were tucked away in obscure places, but this is a minor niggle. The menu items you will need to access regularly are right where you'd expect to find them. Connecting it up to my Sony K800i phone was a breeze, and it all worked perfectly, first time, over Bluetooth.
The unit's performance has exceeded my expectations. The GPS locking is fast and strong (even deep inside my house), and the overall speed of calculations and the display is very impressive.
Audio quality through the built-in speaker is not, to my ears, as clear as my old GO 300, but it's still more than up to the task. You can route the instructions and/or music through your car stereo (via an FM frequency) if you'd prefer. I haven't yet connected my iPod Touch up to the unit, but I've read that I can actually control the iPod from the GO 520's touch screen.
As soon as I connected the GO 520 to my PC (Windows XP), the TomTom home application updated the software to the latest version, and downloaded the latest "safety" camera database. You get a latest map guarantee, that lasts for 30 days. The GO 520 sits in a desktop dock (supplied) and charges when connected to your computer.
I can't recommend this GO 520 Music Edition enough.
Great gadget, works with my iPhone, shame about customer services
I bought my Tomtom Go 520 and was pretty impressed. Works very well and is simple to use (no need to read the instructions). Managed to connect it to my iPhone to make and receive handsfree calls albeit after a few teething troubles - for some reason the sound on my tomtom was a bit temperamental at first but that seems to have been fixed now and it works fine.
Have linked it up to my iPod and the quality of sound is much better than I expected. Did not manage to get it to play via my FM transmitter but my radio is very old and crackly so the poor sound could be due to my radio and not the tomtom.
Would definitely recommend and think it is good value at that price (considering you get a large screen tomtom, iPod player and handsfree kit).
Customer services are slightly rude and unhelpful. They refused to help me when I couldn't get any sound out of my tomtom because I was trying to connect it to an "incompatible phone". Luckily the problem was resolved without them.
Great with my Mac after software update
Device itself worked straight out of box.(In store car park!) While I popped out of car to drop my 10 year old's friend off she added the place as a favourite and named it. It really is that simple. Great with ipod. Speed differs from my speedo by about 3mph-who is right??
Software on CD in box was not compatible with my mac and only half worked, kept freezing. I went online and downloaded the latest for mac version and it works brilliantly. Lots of free voices- though some are a bit ropey!
Exceeded expectations, only 4* due to software probs.
Had no problems with the windscreen mount as seen in other reviews, tried others out in the shop and thought this the best.
