Customer Reviews

Does it work with VISTA and AOL ? That was my concern.3

I based my own purchase on previous client feedback, so I feel compelled to share my experience.

DELIVERY: was excellent, secure (Recorded delivery) and faster than listed.

QUALITY: First impressions of the adapter were that it is flimsy and less robust than the Netgear WG111's that I use on my laptop running on XP. That said, once it is fitted, does it matter?

VISTA: I specifically opted for this USB adapter because it claimed to work with VISTA. The WG111 is unable to run with Vista without an annoying bug that has yet to be sorted by Netgear. Even though the drivers are available, they are both problematic.

DRIVERS: I expected to just plug and play the NextBlue, as the advert suggested that no drivers were required. However, the resource disk is required. Even though there is no mention of Vista on the disk or the brief instructions, the USB adapter does somehow work. Despite it working seamlessly the first time, I did also have to uninstall and reinstall a few times as I kept getting the message "no network found".

DESIGN: I installed the adapter on a brand new DESKTOP PC. A better design would have put the indicator light on the adapter on both sides or at least at the end where one could see it regardless of the position of the unit. It was frustrating not to be able to see if it was responding (with green flashing light) when there were connection problems.

The desktop is positioned some distance from our Netgear DG584G router - with thick walls in between, and reception was either very poor or nil. This was overcome by using a USB extension cable previously supplied with my WG111. This also allows for the adapter light to be visible.

As a result of re-positioning our router to a more central place in the house, the desktop with the Next Blue adapter seems to respond better. I am experimenting to try and increase the 3 out of 5 bars but it has to be said, USB adapters have weaker range than the in-built wireless adapter in my Toshiba laptop. It also seems that using wireless adapters does cause the occassional dropping or loss of packages.

PRICE: Silly format with the low product and high postage cost, but surely it is the total price and its function that counts.. and we have the option to cancel when we see the postage cost. It is not very ethical but they are all doing it on Ebay.

Would I recommend? Well, it seems to work on a machine with both VISTA and AOL and that is an achievement! You decide. Hope this was helpful.

WARNING - overcharge postage1
Warning, this product at 1.99 from a marketplace vendor has a listed weight of 9kg - NINE KILOGRAMS! are you kidding me? look at how the postage charges add up. Amazon should remove this seller.

Vista compatible???2
This product is anything but vista compatible... plug and play with vista? i bought this product specifically because it said it worked with vista but when i got it the cd had no vista driver. I checked the internet for a driver that would allow this dongle to work with vista without much success. If anyone knows where i can get a vista driver that actually works please tell me. The reason i gave this product 2 stars was because it does seem to work on xp.
If you are looking for a dongle that works with vista i do not suggest this product, but if you need it for xp it should work for you.

Ok I have now tryed it on xp after it being useless for vista.. It worked initially but has given me hell. deserves 1* I suggest you pay a little more for a different dongle (I advise a tp link one) rather than risking this rubbish.
