    Stay away!1
I used the drive to rip my dvd collection to, as I did not have the space for them. So I used this drive which worked perfectly for the last 3 months, woke up today the drive was dead, will not take any power. I have lost 900 Gb's of video. I am gutted! Stay away from these drives!

    Great piece of kit!!5
Western Digital My Book 2 Essential 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

I recently purchased one of these drives as the hard drive in my PC was getting very full.

I was very pleased when I first opened the box up as it was much smaller than I had imagined, and the styling of it with the glossy black outer case and the 2 blue LED's on the front.

After swapping the adaptors round on the mains plug and connecting the USB cable my computer detected it straight away and after a quick format from FAT32 to NTFS it was goo d to go.

The only draw back was the length of the USB cable, it is about 1.2mtrs long, but a quick search of Amazon and I have found a 3.6mtr cable for about £9.

Other than that an excellent product.,

Was fantastic until it died after 2 months. R.I.P. 9,000 photos...1
Bought this as I was switching from PC to Mac. Transferred EVERYTHING over to it, sold PC, bought MacBook Pro, plugged drive in; DEAD. Light comes on, drive's not recognised, then light goes off after about 10 minutes.

I've lost over 9,000 photographs, my iTunes library (inc. some purchases) and untold other stuff. Really upset as I thought WD was a brand I could rely on for this task. I must say though, that they have been very good about arranging a replacement.

So, if you have important data backed up, my advice would be, no matter which backup drive you have, also make backups to DVD, tape or another external drive.
