Synopsis
Peter Weller stars in this urban sci-fi Western as Murphy, a good cop who literally gets shot to pieces while on duty and winds up reborn as a crime-fighting machine. An ambitious executive at OCP, the corporation running the futuristic city of Detroit, fuses Murphy's torso with bulletproof steel limbs and rewires his brain with computer chips so he will have no will of his own. Murphy's former partner tries to help RoboCop remember his human past, but his circuitry blocks whatever dim memories remain. Luckily, a chance encounter with one of his killers wakes up the human essence in RoboCop, causing him to rebel against his programming and commence on a one-cyborg mission of vengeance that leads all the way to the top of OCP. This second English-language film by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is unremittingly brutal, darkly comic, and filled with bits of clever satire and pathos. A special highlight is the hilariously incompetent ED-209, RoboCop's main rival in the department of automated law enforcement. Considered by many critics to be one of the best films of its genre, ROBOCOP was followed by several sequels and a 1994 TV series.

"You Have 20 Seconds To Comply"3
Robocop is a classic, lets be honest - so when I saw that the blu-ray market was getting a release of it, I had to rent it tout suite. Films like these really defined the 80s sci-fi genre, with futuristic cyborgs that were not 100% cybernetic. When I got this, I was really eager to see what those bofins had done to the film to make it 1080p - and to be honest, I wasn't that impressed.

So yes, you get the full uncut movie, 103mins in total, which means you see more gore in the boardroom when the demonstration goes really horribly wrong with ED209, and you get more violence in Murph's already rather nasty death to the big boss Clarence; but that is about it, no extras to really talk about, oh yeah- a trailer! Wow, with this Fox you really are spoiling us!

I feel really disappointed - and cheated, thank god I didn't buy this, it's a cash-in for Fox and I feel rather let down. I expected some of the great extras from the Robocop Trilogy [1987] that I bought 8 years ago to be here, and maybe a new documentary to compliment a new and exciting platform. I guess I will have to wait for a better release, but 21 years on I thought the 20th anniversary edition would have blew me away, instead it's like a trickle when you wanted a good shower.

Of course, the audio is excellent with it's Tru-HD lossless mix, but this really doesn't excuse the fact that the picture quality is only OK, it's not amazingly well remastered, would have expected really a lot better, if they can remaster Dirty Harry to the level they did I am sure they could do better with this.

Even if you love this movie, it's questioning of cybernetics and the complexities of the mind, I wouldn't suggest getting this - it's not the best they can offer us and I think it's time we got a decent fully loaded BD-50 of this film, as it's an excellent adventure from start to finish.

3/5 for the movie, 3/5 for the transfer and 0/5 for the extras.

Robocop as good as ever!5
Just watched the blu-ray disc through amazon rentals; it is the full uncut 103 minute version and it was absolutely superb. Key sequences on blu-ray are stunning; the ED209 briefing, Murphy's "murder" breathtaking! Make no mistake, uncut and on blu-ray is the only way to see this film!

THIS IS THE UNCUT DIRECTORS CUT!!!!4
Ignore what the first reviewer says. The box states that the film is 98 minutes long when it is actually the full 103 mins directors cut of the film. This is the same version released on standard dvd a while back so there is more of kenny being blown away in the boardroom and a lot more gore during Murphy's death.

Picture is pretty good for the most part with a noticable drop in quality during the added directors cut scenes. The sound is where this excels with a great dts HD soundtrack.

This is a great film and a decent blu-ray transfer but loses a star for the lack of extras. Can't really understand the lack of extras on a lot of recent blu-rays as the major selling point is how much storage capacity the discs have over standard dvd.
