Two years after winning The X Factor, Manchester-born Shayne Ward follows up his eponymous 2006 debut. While that albumwas predominantly composed of ballads, this release sees Ward "acting his age" with a collection of infectious, uptempo, RnB-influenced pop. Produced by pop supremos extraordinaire Maratone (Britney, Westlife, Celine Dion) and Ryan Tedder (J-Lo, Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis), it includes the singles 'Breathless' and the no.2 double A-side hit 'No U HangUp'/'If That's OK With You'.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Brit-nominated Manchester lad Shayne Ward proved himself a real soul talent and a more than capable balladeer with his debut album, Shayne Ward. This second outing, Breathless is something of a surprise, in that it sees the singer take a more assertive stance, swapping the slowies for uptempo disco, dance and electronic R&B. Recorded in Sweden with legendary pop don Max Martin (Britney Spears, N'SYNC, the Backstreet Boys), the album bristles energetically in a way that Ward's debut didn't. Recent single "If That's Okay With You," showcases the upbeat vibe to some extent, but "No U Hang Up" and "Melt the Snow" come with an even more contemporary feel, while "Tell Him" and "U Got Me So" wouldn't be out of place on a Justin Timberlake album. The reggae groove of "Damaged" works well, as does the album's key ballad, "Breathless". The only downsides are the bizarrely Wham-esque "Tangled Up" and the boring and mediocre "Stand By Your Side". Largely though, this is a triumphant sophomore album from a real British soul survivor. --Danny McKenna

Breathtaking!!
"Breathless" has left me just entirely that way! I am always looking for stunning-voiced male singers and Shayne is one of the most extraordinary that I've ever heard. So many singers just sound the same but Shayne is out of this world and few male singers could hit these delicious high notes, delivered to perfection throughout the album in a soft and satiny tone. He could be around for 50 years because he's got such a great voice. It is a much, much better album than the previous which consisted solely of ballads, and though ballads are very much my scene, I prefer to get a mixture and the dance/R&B stuff on here is truly awesome and he sounds 10 000 times better than most people who do that kind of music because he has a terrific voice, beautiful, and, essentially, adaptable. I am really into Kylie and this has the same delicate sensuality and uplifting warmth. "No U Hang Up" is funky, though the lyrics are slightly daft; "Breathless" has somewhat candy-floss lyrical content but is saved by remarkable vocals with rare warmth and dazzling purity. The lyrics to other tracks though, like "You Make Me Wish", "U Got Me So", "Tangled Up" are hot, sexy, sensual, romantic and almost erotic without being crude or explicit (which I find so crass, so common, it so cheapens songs, mentioning no names...Miss Winehouse, ...Mr. Williams...) All in all this cd is sheer loveliness. I vdo not understand the Justin Timberlake comparisons as I found Justin's cd "Futuresex Lovesounds" deadly boring, repetitive and unnerving. Repeating the same line and the same beat 5000x doesn't make you a pop genius. While I can see Justin has a nice voice (if he'd just get some decent songs he might make a good record) I think that Shayne is a 10 000x better singer and the Americans need to check him out (or miss out). But "Breathless" - takes your breath away. Shayne - a class act who could be around for generations.
