Bloc Party are not everyone's cup of tea, I didn't like them when I first heard them, but then again, I don't think they intend to be liked by everyone or that would make them conformists to popluar culture.

Personally, I think that the album is amazing. It has some, what I can only describe as thumping riffs and superb climaxes as well as some more mellow tunes all of which are in careful balance of one another. We're slowly introduced to a more electric side of Bloc Party showing they are able to broaden their horizons in the music they produce. It's not all about the music though, it is the lyrics as well. So if you appreciate the lyrics, you appreciate the music more. So perhaps to some this would be a grower.

If you like music that is easy listening and about nothing, don't get this album. But if you like to dig deeper and enjoy indie music with meaning, it may be worth trying this. Any Bloc Party fan is bound to love it.

i <3 Bloc Party5
I have all of Bloc Party's stuff - and in this album they seem to grow up - the sound is much cleaner than the raw energy of Silent Alarm, and I'm not sure if it suffers becuase of that. I don't think so. A lot of sharp cultural comment:

'There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall
All the young people looked the same
Wearing their masks of cool and disinterest
Commerce dressed up as rebellion' - Uniform

like so. If you liked Silent Alarm then this is for you. Their next album, Intimacy is VERY different so spotify it if you're not sure to try before you buy.

doing what they are good at4
I love this album, its one of those that i go back to time and time again. Its got a mix of calm to energetic sound that theres always a mood that you can listen to it. Hunting for witches is a favourite, but I think Uniform is impressive how it builds up and achieves an edgy sound with the guitars. Its not an album you could listen once to and make your mind up on I think. I'm a big bloc party fan, so I would say this is good. If you didn't think much to the first album then I wouldn't recommend it as this is very much a development on their individual sound. I didn't rate this as a 5 purely as I love 'Intimacy' and can't wait to see if their work gets any better.
