Customer Reviews

Processed Cheese1
What is almost instantly obvious on listening to this album of covers is that none of these versions comes even slightly close to the quality of the originals. These boys do have good voices but the real problem lies in the production which is a digital-compression nightmare. The drums on every track sound the same. Crisp digitized and soulless. As any fan of the Motown sound knows: most of the early tracks were sessions, where the song was captured in a performance. These version have none of that energy. None of that Genius. Even the cover of Lionel Richie's "Easy" feels processed and listless. Back in the day they knew that the sound of the drums and bass was all important. A lesson that was obviously forgotten by the producers of this processed cheese.

Sacrilege1
Obviously this album appears to cross the boundary between the 'music' of Boyz II Men and the timeless classics of Motown's golden era, thus you may expect it would appeal to fans of both genres ... you would be wrong.

I will qualify this review with one important point - I am not a fan of Boyz II Men, thus if you ARE a fan of theirs, this review will be of no use to you whatsoever and you may cheerfully stop reading now. If, however, like me, you are interested to hear some of your all-time favourite tracks with a sympathetic re-rendering then this review is essential.

To hear the nasal whine of this collection of 'artists' drift wildly north and south of the tune without ever actually hitting it was akin to a rusty iron spike being dragged down a blackboard. It summed up all that is bad about the current hideous genre of 'R&B' (the rotted corpse of the late, great Rythym & Blues sound) to hear the strained warbles yodelling all over the notes and obscuring just about all that is so very fine about the original tracks. A similar sound could be reproduced by clumsily castrating a cat without the use of anaesthetic.

Like I say, Boyz II Men fans will no doubt enjoy this album, I doubt very much whether Motown fans will, unless they are similarly inclined.

Absolutely fantastic Album5
When I saw these guys on X factor , I knew we were going to hear something very special. I got off my settee and started singing and dancing along to their "sweet" vocals.

Where have these boys (NO MEN)!!!! been for so long? Just like previous reviewers have stated "they do not make songs like these anymore", BUT wait it isn't the songs that make this album so perfect it is the VOICES. This album is the total essence of keeping it real, the songs have stood the test of time and are timeless.

This is an awesome return from this group and long may they keep producing, because I for sure will be buying their next album.
