Don't upgrade, consider not buying Office2
This new version of Office has too many problems. In addition to the slow performance the lack of compatability with other versions (meaning settings have to be changed to save files in the old format) makes day to day operation a pain. Added to that network operation on classic Office files is very uncertain.
I have tried three service pack versions. The first one wouldn't open Excel XLS files through the network, then after the next service pack it did, after the next fix pack it didn't.
Files seem to randomly get saved into last used save folders when they have been opened from somewhere else. If you want basic Word processing and spreadsheet analysis with presentation save money and buy iWork. The learning curve will be shorter than the frustration trying to make Office 2008 work. And you can install on five computers.iWork '08 Family Pack

Something i've found out too late!!4
everyone needs to consider when choosing either iwork or office that when you receive e-mails most attachments will be office documents. so if you choose to only buy one it may be worth your while getting office for the convenience of being able to read sometimes important attachments!!!

At last a modern version of Office for MAC users.5
I am a dual MAC and PC users. generally I use the MAC for play and photography and the PC for work and to use those software programmes which are not dual platform - I mean not MAC friendly.

I have used Microsoft Office from its first incarnation and nothing touches it for its ability and power and its worldwide recognision. I have used the MAC programmes but whilst I like them they are somewhat more basic then I like. So I saw this and bought it, even after reading the awful reviews from some reviewers.

My view, it does exactly what I want it to do, I can easily send Excel and Word files to my PC with no platform problems and as yet I can't fault it. The big plus for me is that it has Entourage so I can down load my Outlook emails and MAc emails at the same time and it has Messenger.

There are a few things I would have liked in the programme and these are firstly, that Messenger was as powerful as the Microsoft PC version. The MAC version has no video and no shared files facility so if I want to send a file or start a video with a mate I have to swap platforms.

The other problem I had is that this version comes with 3 licences. Great, unless your daughter, like mine, loads the software and uses the same licence I used. Microsoft then freeze the use of that programme on that computer and even removing the programme will not resolve the issue. I had to remove the programme and the cookies in the MacBook then use Time Machine and go back a week an reload from there. Takes about 4 hours!!!

Anyway I suppose thats my problem not Microsoft.

All in all a great bit of software and please I hope that software developers soon catch up and write more great programmes for the MAC.
