DVD Description
During 2007, a Duke production team were tasked to produce the definitive documentary about Colin McRae. With full access to all the WRC recordings of Colin's championship years plus other rally and family archive, director Mark Cross was able to compile the most comprehensive career record yet of this remarkable sportsman. Working closely with Colin McRae Motorsport Ltd, we also had rare and exclusive access to Colin during a hectic year in which he was about to launch his first production rally car (the amazing R4), was contracted to the X-raid BMW team for Dakar 2008, was involved in the launch of the latest version of his hugely successful computer game ‘Colin McRae-DIRT’ and was seriously considering a return to the WRC.

The crew also joined Colin driving the R4 in public for the first time at Goodwood and thrilling the crowds in his unique Ford Escort Mk 2 at the Manx National rally. Finally, in late August, only a few weeks before the tragic accident that claimed the lives of Colin, his son Johnny and two family friends, we were especially privileged to spend two days in Lanark with Colin and his family. Here Colin talked candidly about every aspect of his career and life; his favourite and not-so-favourite, drives, events, teams; his plans for the future.

This then is his story. The story of a true rally legend.

Synopsis
The first British driver to win the World Rally Championship, Colin McRae's career was that of a true rally legend. 2007 saw McRae launch the R4 - his first production rally car, prepare for the 2008 Dakar rally and launch 'Colin McRae-DIRT' - the sixth racing game in the successful Colin McRae Rally series. Working closely with Colin McRae Motorsport Ltd, with full access to footage of his championship years and to the man himself, this documentary tells the story of a career built through hard work, determination and passion.
In September 2007 this legacy was cut short after a tragic accident claimed the lives of Colin, his young son Johnny and two family friends. Only a few weeks previously McRae invited the production team to spend two days with his family in Lanark, providing a fascinating, if bittersweet, interview covering his work, life, events, teams and plans for the future. This is his most comprehensive career record yet and a must for all fans of the truly remarkable sportsman.

Forever Sideways...5
Given the close proximity of this DVD release to the death of McRae you can be forgiven for thinking this is one of those cheap "cash in" efforts, on the contrary however, this DVD was already being compiled as a document of his life in the weeks prior to his death. It is this which really makes the main feature of the DVD that much more poignant, as instead of other people discussing his life story, it is being told by McRae himself.

The main bulk of the DVD comprises a comprehensive history of McRae's career in motorsport, interspersed with interviews from colleagues, friends and the great man himself. The main feature concludes with a detailed review of his most recent projects, including a look at the R4 and its debut performance at Goodwood. A number of extras are also included and, as with the main feature, all of these are high quality, well edited segments of footage.

In terms of the technical aspects of the DVD I can find no fault either. Some Duke titles I've owned in the past have had inaccurate commentary, poor menus and rubbish audio, but this DVD can be accused of none of these. My only minor gripe (and this is MINOR), is that there isn't more footage of some of his latter motorsport endeavours (Dakar, Le Mans etc.), but I appreciate that a DVD only has so much space on it and that the rally footage is most deserving.

I was lucky enough to see McRae driving at his last public performance; but irrespective of whether you saw him in action on a stage, on TV, or if you're a motorsport fan whose never seen him at all, I cannot recommend this DVD enough.

R.I.P Colin McRae5
Excellent DVD. Great review of his career including up close and personal interviews and moments at his home in Lanark.

Tragedy that you are gone and you are being sadly missed.

R.I.P a true Scottish great!

Great Tribute to a great sportsman5
This DVD just makes Colin's loss the greater as it shows his journey to maturity from motorsport hot-head to happy and contented family guy.
After spending many years watching his incredible driving first hand in the freezing bowels of numerous forest stages I find this to be a great tribute to one of the worlds all time greatest competitors.
