Product Description

'Dressed For The Occasion' is the second album from fashionconscious London rappers The Mitchell Brothers. Following on from their debut 'A Breath Of Fresh Attire', the duo remain charming and inventive. Produced mostly by label boss and The Street's frontman Mike Skinner the album is slick, freshand offers an alternative and humourous take on modern life. Musically this the brothers' most daring to date featuringguests such as Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen and Calvin Harris who produced the single 'Michael Jackson'.

Customer Reviews

Would give it 4 and a half really but there isn't one ...4
After loving the first album, I was expecting quite big things from this one. I'd already heard the single Solemate which I enjoyed. The single is a good insight into Dressed for the Occasion. Without seeing the title spelt the way it is for Solemate, you may think that the song is about a partner, but infact it is about a prized pair of trainers. The song is laced with double meanings as is much of the new album. The 'brothers' - think they're actually cousins in reality, have kept their fun, humorous take on everyday occurences but have stepped up their lyrics a bit.
There are also some quality beats on this album which make it very listenable. Calvin Harris produces the catchy 'Micheal Jackson' and Cats & Dogs is a standout track. Bestest Man is an original idea for a song - a man who does not reject the idea of relationships but does not want to get married as he thinks that marriages changes everything. There is always a song for the ladies, and on this album it's Postcard. I feel that the lyrics in this song are particularly clever and for me it's a toss up between that and Cats & Dogs as to which is the best track.
Overall I would give this album 4 and a half because you can listen to the whole album without wanting to skip a track. The Mitchell Brothers should be a lot more famous than they are.

Quality, quality. Quality.5
Since receiving this a few weeks back I just keep coming back to it. Some very very catchy tunes that stick in my head and rail against that initial expectation of something a bit more edgy and "street".

What you soon realise is that it is because of some absolutely quality production. Each tune is musically and lyrically unique, and the sort of quality production you would expect from a big US hip hop outfit like Aftermath, Timberland, Pharrell or Kanye West, but with a very very British sound.

This album deserves a much wider fan base, is very accessible and no worse for it. 5 stars is a big accolade and I certainly wouldn't have gone that far when I first listened to the album, but after repeated listens even the tunes that aren't stand-out tracks (my favourites are Michael Jackson, Bestest Man, Gatecrasher and Soulmate) really grow on you, including Action Hero, which actually got on my nerves to begin with.

So. Quality, then.

Mitchell Brothers - New Album3
Bought it from Amazon the other day. First time that i listened to each song i thought it was a pretty poor follow up to their first album. But ... it is true that the album definately grows on you. If you were a fan of the first album I recommend this one. Half of the songs on the album are slow tempo and downbeat. The other half is fast and catchy. This album is more for the masses and not just fans of grime or hip-hop etc ... There is a lot less profanity used in this album, it's upto you to decide if thats a good thing or not. Overall, the album is very inventive and very different from their previous album with a few sure fire big hits on there.
