Customer Reviews
Best wrestling PPV of 2008
Bound for Glory is TNA's answer to Wrestlemania, and though it may lack the sheer spectacle of the WWE, it far outstrips it in terms of sheer wrestling quality. There's a handful of real classic matches here and for this price if you are a wrestling fan you'd be crazy to not get this.
MATCHES:
LAX vs XXX - Ultimate X match, winner gets a Tag Title Shot.
Simply the match of the year. Your jaw will drop. I really don't understand why on the basis of this incredible match, that Elix and Senshi have become little more than jobbers on Impact lately. This match just has too many good spots to mention. Worth buying the DVD for this match alone. 5/5
Battle to enter the Fight For the Right Tournament. I love this about TNA. They always come up with some big match featuring loads of people and a unique set-up. In this one, everyone has to battle outside the ring and the first 8 to get into the ring enter the tournament. Then it goes to an over-the-top battle royale and the final two have a one-fall match. The order of elimination determines the order of matches in the tournament. Great fun! 4/5
Tag Title Match - Tomko and AJ Styles vs Team Pacman
A new guy wrestles in the place of Pacman himself which means that The Truth actually doesn't have to do all the work for a change. He isn't bad either and goes by the name of Rasheed Lucius `Consequences' Creed, which is a bit ostentatious really. It's a good fast paced entertaining match overall. 4/5
X-Division Title - Christopher Daniels vs Black Machismo
The Fallen Angel gets his title shot and it's a cracker!!! They fly back and forth with crazy X-division action and put on the singles match of the night. The only complaint is possibly that some of the moves they pull off are actually quite a bit better than the finisher that ends the match. Still minor complaint and another classic! 5/5
2 out of 3 Falls Table Match - Steiners vs Team 3D
Well at least it's a gimmick match. Really the only reason I wasn't bothered with this one is that I don't like the Steiners. At all. The match is a crowd pleasing brawl and is entertaining enough. If it had been a normal match it would probably have been pretty boring. 3/5
Monster's Ball - Abyss vs Rhino vs Raven vs Black Reign
The Monster's Ball is a hardcore `anything goes' match. And as hardcore matches go I have seen much better. This is probably due to Raven and Black Reign (evil Goldust) being a bit past it really. 3/5
Battle Royale to determine the 1st TNA Women's Champ.
Not usually a big fan of women's wrestling. But this is pretty decent and its good to see some recognition for the winner. 3/5
Christian Cage vs Samoa Joe - Must be a winner.
Great match. Cage's undefeated streak vs Joe's raw ability and intensity. Lots of great action from these two. Matt Morgan is special guest enforcer and I would like to see him wrestle again soon too. 4/5
Sting vs Kurt Angle - World Title Match
I'm not a big Sting fan. He's undoubtedly a competant veteran but he's no Kurt Angle. That said this is a dramatic and exciting match and I enjoyed it. I just don't think its as amazing as other people did and the wrong man won. 4/5
BETTER than WrestleMania? NO. But still an outstanding show!
Having watched more and more of TNA over the last few years, it has certainly proven to be worthy competition to the WWE, bringing some refreshing, revolutionary and (yes, indeed) AWESOME stuff to the table. Bound For Glory is TNA's own WrestleMania, and is promoted as such. As fellow Amazon reviewers have said, it may lack the aura of WrestleMania, but it nevertheless makes history and provides classic matches.
But is the 2007 edition of Bound For Glory BETTER than WrestleMania 23? NO. Could it have been? Sure. But the reason WHY it isn't, is because of the same ludicrous booking and Vince Russo's nonsense that STILL plagues TNA to this day. Along with insane over-reliance on some veterans who just can't deliver anymore, as well as too much gimmickry. And Mike Tenay and Don West's commentary really grates on me at times. The company can really be its own worst enemy.
Nevertheless, this is truly one of TNA's greatest shows ever. So if you can deal with all the senseless rubbish, MY WORD, are you in for a treat.
Ultimate X Match
L.A.X. vs. XXX
GOOD GOD, this was such a classic opener. The Ultimate X match is one of the greatest gimmicks I've ever seen, providing such thrilling, original, breathtaking and innovative spots year after year. And it's the same here. Both teams contribute so much to the contest and will render you absolutely speechless. Hands down, match of the night. (9/10)
Fight For The Right Match.
After such a godlike opener, we have this. A REVERSE battle royal, that turns into a battle royal, that turns into a one-on-one match?! And all this DOESN'T determine the No. 1 contender for the world title. Just the RANKINGS for a tournament that takes place on Impact! It's such an overbooked, confusing shambles with random wrestlers who weren't READY for the title picture. There are some nice spots, but less is DEFINITELY more here. (5/10)
TNA World Tag Team Championship Match
Team Pacman (Champions) vs. AJ Styles and Tomko
Can someone explain to me WHY they made an American footballer a champion when the NFL wouldn't ALLOW HIM to compete in the ring or even take a bump?! Pacman Jones contributed absolutely nothing during his TNA run and was a waste of time and money. However, Ron Killings, Consequences Creed and the Phenomenal One make up for the stupidity with a great tag bout that has a pleasing outcome. Tomko does well, too. (8/10)
X-Division Championship Match
Jay Lethal (Champion) vs. Christopher Daniels
There can only ever be ONE Randy Savage, so time will tell if `Black Machismo' will last in the long term. Still, Lethal deserves huge credit for making the impersonation gimmick work so well thus far, and his amazing ability has really allowed him to shine with the X-Division title. He and Daniels (another godlike talent) REALLY deliver in an outstanding bout that reminds everyone just why the X-Division is so awesome. Fast-paced, exciting and utterly innovative...ESSENTIAL WATCHING. (9/10)
Tables Match
Steiner Brothers vs. Team 3D
Oh dear. The Steiners are very broken down here, and the former Dudley Boys are way past their best. Granted, there're some good spots and it is mildly entertaining, but this one you can easily afford to skip. (5/10)
Knockouts Gauntlet Battle Royal
Ever since Trish Stratus and Lita retired, WWE's once proud women's division has fallen into decline. TNA's women's division has filled the void and has really become SUCH a hit, what with all the talent and cracking booking behind it. There's some rather good action and Awesome Kong and Gail Kim are the stars here. Better days would follow, obviously, but this is still worthy watching with no better choice to be the 1st ever Knockouts' Champion. (6/10)
Samoa Joe vs. Christian Cage (Special Enforcer: Matt Morgan)
What an absolutely fantastic grudge match! Not only did it have tremendous hype, but the action was non-stop, blistering and absolutely exciting. Joe just never ceases to amaze me with his incredible abilities. The big man hits hard, shows his technical expertise and FLIES in a way that would shame most Cruiserweights. Captain Charisma is brilliant as always and Matt Morgan really adds to the bout with his presence. Utterly top-notch stuff. (9/10)
Monster's Ball Match
Abyss vs. Raven vs. Rhino vs. Black Reign
TNA's booking is just so frustrating. After exhilarating viewers with classic bouts, the line gets broken sporadically with rubbish like this. This is a sloppy hardcore brawl that's tiresome to watch. Raven should really retire, Black Reign was way better as Goldust and Rhino just continues to be misused. None of this really does the talented Abyss ANY favours whatsoever. (4/10)
TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match
Kurt Angle (Champion) vs. Sting
A dream match that we've all wanted to see. Unfortunately, this is also hampered by a senseless storyline involving Karen Angle and Kevin Nash. The whole mess is full of nonsense and contradiction that only Russo would come up with, and the silly, unnecessary run-ins at the end do spoil the result. Thankfully though, the majority of the action is world-class wrestling at its finest. It's the Stinger's best match in years and Kurt delivers with typical finesse. All in all, terrific main event and cracking way to finish off the show. (8/10)
There's some good extras on the DVD too, such as the preview for the show, a nice photo gallery, brilliant footage from the Fanfest and a great preview of the Impact! Game. However, there is an unpleasant segment where Angle stalks Sting's son, which I would advise leaving alone.
Overall, the absolutely AWESOME matches and work from the wrestlers greatly outweigh the stupid booking. Although the pay-per-view could easily have been perfect, Bound For Glory 2007 is still an amazing show that's well worth the money. Truly one of TNA's best releases.
Very Fast Action.....................................
They do not come much faster than this. TNA are giving ther WWE a run for its money, but it lacks a certain sparkle. Nevertheless, the combatents give their all. This is a very good DVD complete with Extras.
The main match between Kurt Angle and Sting is outstanding.
There is a mini "Royal Rumble" with the girls competing. Personally I would be quite happy if the girls were left out of PPV because somehow they lack credibility, but the male fans seem to enjoy it.
There are lashings of top names here, and if you are a fan, you will not be disappointed.
Particularly liked the Kevin Nash involvement. I am a big fan of Kevins.
What I do dislike, is the mimicry of WWE. Pity TNA have to copy them.
Great DVD, and well worth watching.
