Big, fast and reliable Samsung SpinPoint 750GB 3,5"
Very quick, even compared to my raid pairing, quiet and a simple installation. Make sure you have screws and a cable (which I had as this is a basic drive and not a retail pack) and you're away in a few minutes.

One of the fastest retail drives, an ideal home for your operating system
I bought this to be the home of my copy of Windows 7. Why? Because it's fast - the 750Gb Samsung SpinPoint F1 (Samsung ID: HD753LJ) took the "Labs Winner" prize in a large group-test review published in the respected UK magazine PC Pro (Sept 2009). However, those with old PCs beware - this is a SATA drive, so very old "IDE-drives only" motherboards or PSUs with old cables will not be able to handle it. But if you have a recent or new system, this makes an ideal O/S disk for Windows 7. The standard 32Mb onboard buffer cache certainly helps to provide a robust speed boost, but the real reason I bought this is the amazing write-access time of 1 millisecond - making it the fastest of 23 drives tested by PC Pro. Average seek-time is 12.8 milliseconds. Read-access speed averages 98.6Mb/s, putting it in the top three of 23. Power draw is 9w at idle, making it rather hungry - ensure your PC's power-supply isn't already overloaded (e.g. a puny 300W PSU trying to cope with a new PCI graphics card) before you add this to the load. The drive also has some Samsung-patented protection going on under the hood, SilentSeek and NoiseGuard, which supposedly reduce vibration and noise. Finally, be aware that this doesn't come with the six screws needed to fit it, nor with the power cable or SATA data cable - if you're not going to house it in something like an Icy Box, or are going to use this as a second backup hard-drive, then you may need to buy screws and probably also a SATA data cable. Ordering from Amazon, my drive came speedily from Germany (Avires AG) by Royal Mail.

The Samsung Spinpoint lives up to its name as a very fast drive and value for money easy to install on my Dell XPS 710. Vista picked it up strait away and i had no problems transfering my system to make it my main drive.
