License To Wed sees newly engaged, Ben Murphy (John Krasinski, The Office USA) and Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore, Because I Said So) trying to start their life together and live happily ever after. The problem is, Sadie's family church, St. Augustine's, is run by Reverend Frank (Robin Williams), who won't bless Ben and Sadie's union until they pass his patented, foolproof marriage prep. course. Consisting of outrageous classes, outlandish homework assignments and some outright invasion of privacy, Reverend Frank's rigorous curriculum puts Ben and Sadie's relationship to the test. Do they have what it takes to make it to the altar?

Editorial Reviews

Comedy reigns throughout License To Wed thanks to Robin Williams, his choir-boy assistant Josh Flitter (Nancy Drew) and the rest of the cast. Laughing out loud is definitely a course requirement for viewers, but underneath the hilarity is a serious message about making marriage work. --Tami Horiuchi
Synopsis
An all-star cast forms this romantic comedy about a couple who must endure a humiliating marriage-training program in order to gain permission to wed from their church's over zealous reverend (Robin Williams). Hilarity follows as the lovebirds (Mandy Moore and The Office US John Krasinksi) put their devotion to the test. From the moment they met in a Starbucks line, the couple was prone to cute mishaps and clumsiness, but they also displayed amazing chemistry. Then Reverend Frank and his very young assistant intervene, putting Sadie and Ben through a torturous process which involves couples counseling, bedroom surveillance, and taking care of two robotic fake babies...
Customer Reviews
amusing but never laugh out loud funny
Robin Williams is a man of God who puts people who want to get married through a test which if they pass it, means their marriage will survive.
And thus Williams lowers the divorce rate. An amusing film but never laugh out loud funny with Mandy Moore and John Krasinski - a couple hoping to be wed - playing likeable if fairly mundane characters.
But the dialogue and story are interesting enough to make this movie worth seeing.
good
was a good film. I liked it. i liked Robin Williams and i like him in this. It even made me have a little cry at the moment towards the end where they are in Jamaica. Watch it now!
Very average romantic comedy
I really like John Krasinski so I had hoped to love this. Unfortunately this film never quite hits the mark. Mandy Moore is quite irritating and I just can't imagine anyone ever getting themselves caught up in the story line. It's a shame because the potential is there but License to Wed just misses. On the plus side, John K. is gorgeous as ever and it's a bit of a treat for fans of The Office (An American Workplace) as there are cameos from a few of the cast. Pretty average stuff.
