Editorial Reviews
Album Description
"Bands rush themselves these days. They've hardly got 20 Myspace friends and they're tweaking their album liner thank-yous. This should have been out two years ago during 2005's indie Teddy boy romance. But the Villains took their time, crafted some proper songs, and emerged with Richie Cunningham's mixtape for Potsie. Rumble Strips must be seething." - 8/10 Vice
The long-awaited debut album - good things come to those who wait. Well you've waited, and now it's (nearly) here.
Customer Reviews
Not as good as they seem to think they are
I get the imprssion that Vincent (so good they named him twice) just yearns with nostalgia for the rock and roll years. The lyrics however are twee in the extreme and seem cobbled together with no great sense of insight or wisdom. The singing is hopelessly overwrought, which is a shame because Vince obviously can sing. The songs themselves are not bad, but needed a stronger hand at the production helm to bring out more of the melody and beat rather than push Vincent's egotistical ramblings to the fore.
Worth three stars as the album is by no means bad, but after an apparent two years gestation, this album really should be better.
Excellent debut
I don't like too much new music (mainly due to my guilty country secret) but this is a good first album from vincent et al.) Strong songs throughout, if you're looking fior something a tad different from the current rock and roll scene give them a try!
One of the highlights of the year
This is such an excellent album. I can't understand a reviewer who gave it 3 stars. It's got a fantastic rythm, great voice, and the happiness of latin beats and trumpets. A great combo. It's like Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks should have sound.
On My Own, Beast, Blue Boy, End of the Night, Pretty Girl, I'm Alive are all excellent tracks.
Only criticism is that despite having been able to create its own 'band sound' it does sound repetitive at times, but from my pov less so than the Monkeys!
