Usually video game tie-ins are released at the same time as the movie theyre based on. Sometimes there can be short delay--but twenty years is something else. Ghostbusters never seems to age, though, with the new game a real labour of love for the developer.
The game features an all new storyline but still manages to replicate most of the major scenes from the films, including the hotel-room capture of New York library ghost, Slimer, and the attack of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Almost all of the original cast are involved, including all four Ghostbusters, the mayor, and even Walter Peck.
The game itself is mission based and has you catching ghosts with your proton packs and then manoeuvring them into a ghost trap--just like the movie. Whether thats enough to fill a whole game isnt clear, but the funny dialogue and celebrity voiceovers should help paper over any cracks.
Key Features
- Tools of the trade: Use all the same gadgets from the movies, including the iconic proton packs, particle throwers, the ghost-locating PKE meter, and Ecto-goggles.
- Direct-to-game sequel: Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson all reprise their roles from the first two movies, and Akroyd and Ramis wrote the game's story.
- Nice day for a drive: Get behind the wheel of the iconic Ecto-1 vehicle from the movie and chase down the faster-moving ghosts.
- He slimed me: The game features all the most famous ghosts from the first two movies, including Slimer, the terror dogs, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and Vigo.
- New York, New York: The highly detailed environments allow for plenty of collateral damage, as a special counter rates the carnage youre causing in dollar amounts.

Authentic wholesom nostalgic fun
Despite the cartoon styling of the Wii version, the game certainly didn't disappoint. I had hoped to play the more realistic PS3 version first, but the graphics give the Wii version a charm of its own.
The control system is well thought out, and easy to use with the Wii-mote acting as your proton blaster and viewing direction, and the nunchuck your movement. Making a throwing motion with the nunchuck deploys a trap, which was a nice touch.
From the moment the slightly grainy Columbia pictures logo appears you feel the nostalgia brimming up, and the reunited cast are exactly as you remember them. The music has been lifted directly from the movies for a truly authentic experience.
There was nothing about this game I didn't like.
Who you gonna call?
As a big fan of the original films, I was really looking forward to the release of this game on the wii - and I wasn't disappointed! The storyline is true to the film and the original actors do the voice acting so it's nostalgic to listen to, not to mention great entertainment! The humour is still there with Ray's off the cuff comments at times of increasing danger and one of your first missions is to catch Slimer who has escaped yet again and has returned to his old haunt of the hotel from the first film! This time, you get to wreck the ballroom though!
Once you get the hang of the controls (you use the remote and the nunchuck to play) it's great fun and it never becomes dull with endless searching for your next hunt. There are plenty of on screen prompts to tell you what to do in the 'novice' mode which is great for younger children and new gamers like me!
The graphics are brilliant and there's very little lag between levels which I had feared on the Wii. You can play on your own or in multi-player which is loads of fun and you can also select the level of difficulty which gives the game lots of mileage. There are also bonus games to unlock.
All in all, a brilliant game. Really glad I bought it.
class act !!
This game oozes (pardon the pun) quality right from the off. With large cartoony smooth style graphics and smooth gameplay this is a hit. Sneak your way around large impressive buildings seeking out paranormal activity, nailing ghosts and just generally blasting everything to kingdom come. The only weird thing is you get to have a crack at the marshmallow man early on in the game. I thought he was supposed to come at the end of the game oh well. This is a definite must for all wii gamers !
