Synopsis
On October 7, 2007, the WWE blew into Chicago for its annual NO MERCY showdown. A jam-packed event showcasing some of the fiercest wrestling talent around, the year-end roundup featured eight devastating battles, including a Last Man Standing Match between Randy Orton and Triple H and a No Contest match between Finlay and the high-flying Rey Mysterio.

Great potential, Okay event!
As you may know, John Cena was scheduled to face Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at No Mercy, however, John Cena got injured. So, the WWE creative team needed a "get out of jail card" and needed to put a new spin on the WWE Championship race.
To start the night, Vince McMahon would come to the ring and announce that there would be a new Champ crowned immediately. This would turn out to be Randy Orton. However, one man felt the need to come out and "request" a title match straight away, after comments being shared the match was on... Triple H vs Randy Orton for the WWE title. I feel the match in places was rather sloppy and I almost got the feeling that both men were wrestling as if they couldn't be bothered, but, overall, I think it was quite good. 7/10
Next up we would see a "surprise" 6-man tag team match. Jeff Hardy & Londrick vs Mr. Kennedy & Cade & Murdoch. An average match really, but one that was pleasent to watch. 6/10
We would next see the ECW championship on the line. CM Punk vs Big Daddy V. Two words for this "match"... Utterly Pointless. The official length of the match was 1:37 Minutes.
Triple H vs Umaga was next, as I don't want to spoil the PPV I won't tell you if it was for the WWE title or not. But, another pleasent match to watch. 7/10
Beth Phoenex vs Candice Michelle was next up. Two divas facing up for the womens title. Hmm... This match wasn't too good. Beth put up a good performance, but, Candice wasn't good to watch (In terms of her wrestling performance). 5/10
Now, it was time for the punjabi Prison match, which Batista would face Khali for the World Championship. A lot of hype, but the match didn't live up at all. Not a lot of wrestling really. Poor! 5/10
Now for the main event. The scheduled Last Man standing match was to be contested. Obviously, Cena wasn't involved. But, the two men that started out the night. Orton & Triple H. It was the best event of the night. Not the best LMS match I've seen, but, still, very, very good. 9/10
Decent for a WWE 2007 PPV, but not that great.
There are several things wrong with this PPV, and only the booking really saves it.
First of all some of the matches that were announced on the night had got little build up from them, secondly there was no real aftermaft between HHH and Orton, and finally, where the hell was Undertaker. So you main event a PPV then your no where in the next one. Anyway on with show.....
HHH v Orton - Solid opener.
Kennedy, Cade and Murdock v Jeff and Londrick - this wasn't really worthy of a PPV, more of a Raw match
CM Punk v Big Daddy V - went on for about 5 seconds.
HHH v Umaga - my match of the night, very good and the best match between these two guys.
Finlay v Rey - A generally poor feud with no great matches about from there Cyber Sunday one.
Beth v Candice - WWE Diva's are a joke anyway.
Batista v Khali - Did anyone really think that Khali had a second title reign on the cards? Poor match with two poor wrestlers.
Orton v HHH - Maybe the slowest Last Man Standing Match of all time. You compare it too HHH v Y2J at Fully Loaded 2000 and you'll see what I mean. Credit to Otrotn and HHH for there effort though
Soooooo not a particualry great and not worth the money IMO
The best pay per view of 2007!
Wow I really loved this pay per view! I was excited going into it at the prospect of there being a new WWE Champion but I certainly couldn't have expected the brilliance in how it happened. The first suprise came when Randy Orton was awarded the championship at the very beginning of the night. Then Triple H challenged Orton for the title and WON IT and this was about the best opening match to a pay per view in history and certainly I think the first time ever that the opening match to a pay per view has been a WWE Championship match! Then Triple H's scheduled match with Umaga still happens but this time for the championship and Triple H retains. And just when you think there's no more suprises Triple H has to defend the title against Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match that was originally going to be John Cena vs Randy Orton! And oh my what a match this was, it reminded me of the quality of matches you saw in 2001 especially the stone cold vs triple h 2nd fall match at no way out 2001. I was amazed from start to finish and the crowd heat was great and a neat finish with triple h getting RKO'd on the announce table. It was just all unpredictability from start to finish, the kind i've never seen and likely will never see again on pay per view. The show had other good parts as well including a decent punjabi prison match, a funny end to mysterio vs finlay and other stuff but the wwe championship story made this my favourite pay per view of 2007
