DVD Description
Top Gear: The Great Adventures features Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May in two popular special Top Gear episodes at the North Pole and in the US.
Polar Special (featuring extended director's cut)
It's the ultimate test of man against machine - or should that be dog against machine - as the Top Gear team set out on their most ambitious and arduous challenge to date. A race starting in Canada and finishing at the North Pole.
US Special
With a budget of $1,000 dollars, each of the team has to buy a car for the epic road trip, stopping along the way to compete in a series of challenges which range from driving across Alabama without getting shot to preparing and eating Road Kill whilst camping out for the night.

TERRIFIC.............BRING IT ON BOYS!......................
Two top adventures from the fab trio.
Firstly Clarkson and James May set out to drive to the North Pole in a modified gas-guzzler, entering the Guiness book of records as the first people to drive to the Pole. Meanwhile the Hampster is going by dog sled. Clarkson and James have to negotiate ice boulders and bears whilst ripping the underside of their Toyota (yet another plug Clarkie). But on the positive side there are no cops or traffic wardens so they can sip gin and T whilst on the move.
This version is somewhat longer than that seen on television and is most enjoyable.
Then the star for me.........Armed with a thousand bucks a piece, our intrepid heroes venture to the Deep South of the USA where they purchase old US bangers and drive to New Orleans where they intend selling said vehicles.
After a series of hilarious adventures they reach their destination.
Some reviewers have stated that this episode was cut and had the music changed. Well, I did not notice. It seemed all right to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is a really chuckle-worthy, rib-rattling set and I could watch it over and over again.
TOP GEAR AT ITS VERY BEST...................
Sublime to ridiculous
Have to agree with the view of many others here. The extended Polar Special is brilliant - even better than the TV version. However, which idiot has destroyed the American trip? So much of it has been cut out. Could it be a fully paid-up member of the dreaded PC brigade as I noticed that Clarkson's rant against "fat, stupid and rude Americans" etc has gone. Likewise, the segment where Clarkson, Hammond and May have to make an "improvement" to their vehicles is cut out totally bar the unexplained site of Clarkson getting an in-car shower from his gadget. Those responsible for this should never be allowed near an editing suite again, and preferably be replaced by a team who'll release an extended version of the brilliant "Caravan holiday" - to my mind the best Top Gear film ever. In conclusion, the Polar film is worth a five, but I've dropped my rating to three purely because of the ruined American show.
Watch it on UK TV
When first aired on BBC2, the American trip was undoubtedly on of the funniest TV shows ever - it was utterly superb. Then UK TV Gold aired it, somewhat edited. Then we watched this DVD. It hasn't been edited, it has been butchered. No where near as funny, in fact, I think they have purposely edited out the funniest parts. A lame interpretation of what could and should have been a fantastic DVD. Very dissapointing.
