Nice camera-but I have issues
I purchased this digital in March. My 2nd Olympus, but this time around I wanted something I could slip into a jacket pocket rather than have around my neck all day.The price was great, 8 mega, the controls weren't to small for my sausage fingers, and it takes a darn nice picture. I was disappointed to find the camera won't take a good flash shot if you're farther away than 6 feet. The FE-310 reverts to the default settings when you power off which annoys me, I would much rather my own settings each time I switch on, for example I like the flash off, and am exasperated to find it switched on when switching on.
The worst problem. The FE-310 doesn't handle rechargeable nimh batteries at all well, and it is infuriating to find newly charged batteries are "empty" I was given a free charger and 2 nimh batteries when I purchased this model and have bought 12 other batteries since, for no satisfaction. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS CAMERA AGAIN.

Not good at low light levels
I purchased this camera because it had a 5x optical zoom and it took standard AA batteries. I was extremely impressed with the zoom quality. The graphic representation on the LCD when zooming has a line that indicates when the camera switches from optical zoom to digital zoom.

Unfortunately the auto-focus appeared to struggle a low light levels and I'm not talking about really dim rooms, this was a room that was light by a 60 watt bulb - light enough for me to read the manual! I didn't think that the LCD was that bright either.

I suppose you only get what you pay for. I subsequently took the camera back and may have to resort to pay a bit more to get better quality.

Battery problem makes this camera useless
When I bought the camera it took great photos. However, the batteries that it was supplied with have long since been used up and I can't get any rechargeable AA batteries to work with it. Did I hear that their is a law suit in the USA about this? If so, what's happening in the UK? This is infuriating and a company as big and respected as Olympus should be able to sort this problem out... or don't they care about the cheaper end of the market? I will never buy Olympus again because of this - and I don't just buy cheap - I bought my daughter a Nikon SLR - superb. Olympus? After this experience, never again.
