Is this really for you ?
There is a lot of gushing praise for this product but I wonder whether this is any better than using your original remotes.
I wanted the remote to control 6 items. Three of the items are on the Logitech database and work "out of the box". A further two are also on the database but did not work, and one was not on the database at all. I had my original remotes to program the Harmony which made is less difficult. The 30 minutes setup that Logitech talk about is more like 2 days. I have no great complaint with the PC software but I think the software in the remote is very poor. For example I have 18 "pages" on the display for my DVDR and a similar number for my Amplifier; the items are more or less in alphabetical order so power on and off are on page 12. I think there should be an option to nuke commands you will not be using, and commands available on the keypad should similarily be hidden.
If you plan to use the "Activities" feature (and I don't think you can avoid it) be aware that all your kit needs to be on standby, which is not very green. Another problem is that if you fumble for the remote you can inadvertently send it off into another activity.
I bought the Harmony because my wife is "technologically challenged" but I'm afraid the product just adds to the problems rather than provide a solution.
Simply the best, buy it
Yes the setup can be fun, and sometimes the database might not have your control in but wow does this deliver. I can ignore the setup but even with that it is still a 5 star product.
I have activities set up for all my favourite stuff, a "watch tv in the morning" which starts everything up and tunes to bbc1 and a "watch tv when I get home" that starts up everything and switches to C4 ready for The Simpsons. Press an activity button and if my XBox360 stays alive for more than 10 minutes we are off gaming.
I am sure I am only using a tenth of what it could do, but not only has it replaced 5 remotes downstairs it also gets rid of another two upstairs.
Yes you will hate the setup but once passed that it is fantastic and setting up favourite channels and buttons is easy. Now I actually use the PiP because the button is easy to get to.
Exceptional Remote Control
Have been programming remotes for some 10 years but without doubt this is the best Universal Remote Control I have ever seen.
Can be set up very quickly for all basic activities but spending a little extra time to get everything to function to perfection is well worth the effort.
Excellent Customer Help available via a freephone (0800) number.
All your programming goes automatically to the Logitech Server enabling the tech staff to see exactly what you have done with the remote and on request make any necessary corrections. All that needs doing afterwards is to update the remote via the computer software.
A great piece of kit.
