Editorial Reviews
Big Cheese
"This album more than lives up to expectations; managing to retain the sass and aggression that made 'Birthing The Giant' such a great album but also taking the Canadian outfit's sound to new extremes and pinnacles."
Rock Sound
"Cancer Bats are back with another array of stomping hardcore cuts that bounce, bristle, and burn."
Album Description
Your favourite filthy metal & hardcore cross-breed merchants Cancer Bats return with their sophomore album 'Hail Destroyer'. This record marks a full-on, sweaty leap forward for these four lovable Canadians and contains 12 of the most jugular grabbing, mosh-pit inciting anthems you'll hear for a long while.
Customer Reviews
Best band Ive heard in ages
If like me you've been waiting for something new to inject some excitement into the current metal/hardcore/punk scene which lets face it, is just full of too many soundalike metalcore bands (not that they're all bad mind!) then this is it. I bought this with the first album 'Birthing the Giant' which is also excellent, but for me, this is the better album, more aggressive vocals and a few more killer riffs in my opinion.
The whole album is just awesome, theres only really one song that I'm not too fond of and thats 'Sorceress', but its by no means bad. Favourites for me have to be the opening title track, 'Smiling Politely' featuring vocals by Benjamin Kowalewicz of Billy Talent (lets hope he sings a bit more like this on the next BT album!) 'Let it Pour' and 'Zeds Dead, Baby'
Ive had this album on for a week solid on my car stereo its that good. So if youve become a bit jaded, this is the album you need to re-ignite your faith again!
AWESOME HARDCORE
Finally a band giving a much needed metal injection into the regurgitated rock scene we have now. Cancer Bats mix metal and punk into an explosive cocktail which literally blew me away. It reminds me of Vision of Disorder but a bit more fun. I can definitely hear a southern metal influence in there with riffs compared to the likes of Down and Corrosion of Conformity. The band keep it ultra tight with very impressive vocals, like the sort that could rip up tarmac of a road! All this and I didn't skip one track! Definitely an album worth buying! HAIL DESTROYER!!!!
Has everyone gone mad?
All I can say is, this is a great album on its own.
But as a follow up to Birthing the Giant?
It's average at best.
I was quite disappointed while at the same time enjoying it.
Harem of Scorpions with Tim McIlrath, Hail Destroyer and Smiling Politely are the best for me.
Took a few listens to get into I must say, and even then, there are some weaker tracks. The lyrics in Pray For Darkness I'm not too keen on, and Lucifer's Rocking Chair is... alright. Whereas, on Birthing The Giant, there isn't a weak track.
If you loved the rock-infused element of Hail Destroyer, you'll love every second of Birthing The Giant.
My recommendation- Buy it 1st, then buy this.
