Synopsis
The famous spy-cams turn their attention to nature's most awe-inspiring event - the great wildebeest migration. Trek features a cast of literally thousands, as countless wildebeest, zebra and antelope are joined by the hyena, leopard, jackal, cheetah and crocodile which prey on them. To personalise this story, remote cameras follow the fortunes of a baby wildebeest and a young zebra. Each has a very different story to tell. From their perspective, viewers experience all the significant events of the 3000 kilometre year-long circular journey. This epic story combines natural humour with high-octane drama. But the bouldercams, dungcams and invisiblecams of past productions have grown into an army of over twenty mobile and remote cameras, giving saturation coverage.

there was a bright light and then a hyena chased me
From the moment a Wildebeest calf is born on the plains of East Africa it has to marshal its wobbly legs and get ready to run within four minutes. Predators are all around waiting to take out the young calf or its mother- hyenas, lions, cheetahs, leopards and crocodiles are all ready to chase or fix their jaws into bits of you. Hippos just get irritated and attack. The only safe thing seems to be tortoises!
These two 60 minute documentaries follow the life of "a" mother and its growing calf through the long journey to seek lush grazing followed by predators at every turn and the long journey back, crossing rivers in flood in which lurk hungry crocodiles. Disguised cameras follow the herd from below water, on the ground (that would be dungcam and tortoisecam) and in the air (although dragonflycam looks like it's flown out of the Jurassic due to its size). During every hazard the calf can get separated from the protection of its mother- although supposedly 95% of lost calves do get reunited with their mothers despite the fact that there are HORDES of wildebeest to search through. There's a lot of very scary stampeding as the herd tries to climb sheer cliffs to make one of the many river crossings, trampling over the bodies of their species to get up the bank. It quite grips you with tension at moments- although folks as you are following very alike herd animals you do wish they would dispense with the fiction that it's just the one pair that get into endless trouble and keep escaping from the jaws of big cat death.
Also in the same series of ingenious spy cameras are the disks Tiger - Spy in the Jungle [2008] and Spy In The... Complete.
join us for the greatest show on earth, the great wildebeest TREK.
Fantastic 2 episode wildlife show, Ive never seen a better show on Wildebeest or the stuning migration.
"The Zebra's are 1st to come to the dangerous of the crossing, there the favorate food of crocodiles but there kick can be cripeling"
its the two part show which has you on the edge of your seat
as the calf must journey miles while lions hyenas and crocodiles attack at every oportunity, this is an apsolute outstanding show and also has plenty of comedy moments in it aswell, including the rush hour where babbons have to look both ways before they cross through the herd and the fire fly cam is in serious trouble and refuses to die.
the only complaint i have to make is the bbc have tons of wildlife episodes, zebras the trail blazzers would have made the perfect dvd extra but sadly looks like they decided to just leave us with no extras.
