Manufacturer's Description
Inspired by the craftsmanship of Venetian glassblowers, the T240 is the embodiment of Samsung's design philosophy - natural beauty that defies standardisation. Unlike other monitors on the market today, Samsung are just as concerned about how a monitor performs as well as it looks. The unique crystal-like frame is both transparent and opaque, giving the monitor a handcrafted feel. The smooth clean lines and variety of colors will make this monitor the centerpiece of any room in your home - no matter how sophisticated it may be. The T240 from Samsung redefines the meaning of slim. This elegantly designed, ultra-thin monitor comes fully equipped with the latest in LCD technology - all packaged within a sleek, sophisticated frame. The reduced bezel width produces a slimmer profile so that every inch of your workspace is maximised.

    Great Gaming Monitor 5
Bought this monitor with the main purpose of using it as an external display for my Macbook Pro, (I should of done my research first) as I soon found out that there is no support for a 1920 x 1200 res from a Mac with this display, I could get a picture using third party software but it was never that good. I was set to return the monitor until I plugged my Xbox 360 into it - I changed my mind.

I have never seen the Xbox 360 look so good, I have played on a number of different displays of all sizes and technologies but this Samsung is the best I've seen. I have always used the VGA cables from my 360 (much better than component in my opinion) and do so with this monitor too, with the Xbox VGA cables set to 1920 x 1080 and the reference levels set to expanded the result is simply stunning. The colours are bright and vibrant, with lots of nice contrast, the image is also very crisp.
So far I have played PGR4, Assassin's Creed, BF:BF, Forza 2 and Deadspace and have been more than impressed with every single one, the resolution is very nice on all with no hint of ghosting.

This display also looks just as good off as it does on, a very nice sleek design with the hint of red along the bottom is very cool. There is also a piece of plastic that clips on the back to keep all your connections and wires looking tidy.

    Overall, a beautiful display.

    Fabulous Monitor5
Like the previous reviewer, I too did quite a bit of research on available 22" and 24" LCD monitors. I kept on returning to this, both in terms of value and previous experience of Samsung LCD TVs. At the moment there aren't a great number of reviews on this, Samsung's latest range - however, since purchase I did find a good number on 'Egg' and the majority where very favourable 4 and 5 stars (or eggs!). That took away the worries, as I had already ordered from Amazon.

Ordered on a Thursday - received following Monday as estimated. So no complaints there. Well packaged and on unpacking was amazed at how light (in weight) this monitor is, which is replacing a Dell 19" widescreen. It seemed about the same weight to me - if not lighter.

Set up was pretty easy and when all in place looks absolutely fabulous, from an aesthetic point of view with it's glossy black surround and ruby red clear edging - got to be the classiest style at the moment. Samsung really do know how to come up with good design IMO. The stand has tilt and swivel, but on my desk when I swivel the screen the whole circular base tends to swivel, as the actual point of swivel seems a bit stiff and I've so far been slightly nervous to apply to much force. But no problem for me. The screen does wobble a little on its base but only when adjusting. My desk is good and solid so the monitor does remain firm and steady, but if your base was subject to constant movement it might be a problem.

On to connecting to the computer - couldn't have been easier on my Vista 32bit Dell computer. Didn't install any drivers, or software, off supplied disc, didn't need to. Recognised straight away and all controls on the side are easy to reach and get used to. Enormous range of controls without using onscreen software which from others experience have stayed clear of until Samsung updates MagicTune.

Although some reviews have stated that the brightness needs toning down as Samsung factory settings usually appear harsh, my initial impression was one of jaw dropping awe. Even though I believe this is a TN monitor the natural bright colours and utter clarity of the contrast from true blacks to pure whites is astonishing. This without a doubt was so much better than my Dell monitor and that screen was very good. Zero stuck pixels, perfect.

I had worried about it's use in games with it's response time of 5ms (not 2ms as sometimes advertised) but having played a few sessions of COD4 and UT3 at the native resolution of 1920 x 1200, I can safely say in the venacular that I was blown away by the experience. I easily suffer from motion sickness, if I become aware of any blurring, but after 2 hours of non-stop play - and bearing in mind even with the best of monitors there is usually a period of adjustment - I was extremely impressed.

24" does make a huge difference in multi-player first person shooters - if you have the graphic's card to handle it (mine is an nVidia 8800GTX on a Core 2 Duo 6600 - so not Uber). was worried that my system wouldn't be able to handle it at the highest resolution without lagging but both UT3 and COD4 where as smooth, clear, and colourful as you would wish. On this monitor I can definately see smaller details in the distance and more subtle movements when targeting. A real advantage for old timers like me.

I also use the computer for DTP and the amount of screen 'real-estate' is just something to be seen. Going back to my 19" was so restricting. Have got work up on the screen as I write this review and all those white areas of Windows would normally be very harsh on the eye but I'm finding it so comfortable after hours of work. yet the whites as mentioned are true white and the blacks couldn't be blacker.

Switching between preset settings for such things as Game, Internet, Film, Sport(?), Dynamic, Custom, Text, is easy, instantaneous and intuitive. I tend to leave it on Dynamic at the moment for general work and internet, and switch to Game for gaming. Takes a single button press for the menu and another to select the setting and switchover is instant.

I could go on at the the risk of sounding like a Samsung sales rep. My only negative comment would be that the power button which is touch sensitive for me is not really very responsive. It works fine if I use my thumb but for some reason takes a couple of tries with my forefinger!? Also without the feel of a traditional button which gives some feedback when depressed have caught myself switching the monitor on and off without realising it. For me this is just a question of getting used to the slick newness of 21st Century tech. Nothing to worry about. Not worried about lack of speakers. I think it would detract from the overall design and I've never experienced good sound from a monitor that a small 2.1 speaker system couldn't trash. Height adjustment hasn't bothered me but seems a shame that for true perfection Samsung weren't able to include this. I've never needed to adjust the height on any previous monitor CRT or LCD before, but for a 24", for some, it would probably be a necessity if it was necessary to swivel the monitor to portrait position.

Without a doubt I am truly impressed with this screen. Coupled with all the range of connections on the back, and the price, I can't see anything to beat it.

Hope this helps someone else whose trying to get some info - I found that part of the experience the most frustrating, so glad so far it hasn't ended in tears.

    Photo's5
Today 08-10-08 I received my Samsung T240 and I can tell you it really did my head in wondering if I had made the right choise, I bought an LG 22" monitor about 9 months ago and I was so dissappointed with the picture quality I returned it straight away so it's taken all these months to pluck up the courage and purchase another one.

I wanted a new Monitor for the main purpose of photography as I use a Nikon D80 DSLR Camera and this is my main hobby, I searched the internet high and low for reviews from other photographers but no such luck as nearly everyone was just interested in gaming so I took the gamble and purchased the Samsung in the hope it would serve my needs.

My opinion on it so far is very very good and for £239 I feel I got a good deal, all my photo's look sharp, colour is very good and no problem with skin tones etc, so for all the photographers out there you won't go far wrong in buying one of these.

The only negative thing I can find is where the onscreen Menu controls are which as a previous reviewer stated are hidden out of sight on the r/hand side of the monitor and can be a pain remembering which one to press.

Anyway I hope this review is a help to other photographers who are looking for a new monitor because it can be one hell of a worry deciding on what one to purchase when it comes to photography.
