FOOTTAPPERS4
Anyone that was around in that sixties era, will know the impact that these instrumental records made. Will know what they are getting on the compilation. Personally, I would have rated this five stars, except for the fact, that some tracks are re-recorded. Three to mention, FOOTTAPPER, the Shadows, APACHE, the Shadows, and DANCE WITH THE GUITAR MAN, Duane Eddy. There may be more. Ok, if for whatever reason, the company issuing this CD includes re-recorded tracks, why cannot they state on the cover of the CD, which are the re-recorded ones. With the security lock on this CD, before I bought it, there is no way of knowing, which are original and which are re-recorded tracks.

However, there are still some great instrumental tracks on here. I was pleased, that WALK - DON'T RUN, the Ventures is the original. Also, the two Sandy Nelson tracks, still drum up a storm. Overall, the quality of each of these tracks is pretty good. Given the amount of time, that most of them have been around.

Another slight niggle, is that TIME IS TIGHT has been included, which is of another decade , yet a still popular recording, Sleepwalk, by Santo and Johnnie has NOT been included. While , another `non-footapping` track, THEME FROM A SUMMER'S PLACE, has been included.

However, I am pleased I have this CD. A lot of my favourite instrumental's, which provide many memories of those years, all on one CD.

Close....but no cigar3
I was very excited to see this release advertised in the press as the instrumental scene of the late 50's/early 60's has been in danger of being completely forgotten by the march of time. There doesn't seem to have been a decent 'entry level' compilation of this particular sub-genre of music in print for some time......and unfortunately there still isn't!
As other reviewers have noted, several tracks are substandard 70's/80's re-recordings. These are the two tracks by the Shadows (which date from the late 80's and also turn up on numerous Universal 'best of' Shadows comps in place of the EMI originals), both Duane Eddy cuts (which appear to date from his mid-70's sessions although, confusingly, the copyright details in the booklet claim that these are the original Jamie and RCA recordings-they aren't!!)and also Teen Beat by Sandy Nelson which is featured in an horrifically sub-bootleg quality live version. Whilst the other tracks include some absolute belters-I'd been after the Spotnicks track on cd for some time-the whole package is let down by the inclusion of inappropriate tracks such as 'Time Is Tight' and 'Classical Gas'(both great but from a very different era), a lack of any sort of sleeve note to explain to anyone discovering these tracks for the first time why this stuff is important, and the afore mentioned 'wrong' versions. Lovers of instrumental rock would do better to dig into Ace's five volume 'Teen Beat',series and give this missed opportunity the hipsway.

Beware !!3
Not all the tracks are original. The ones i'm sure are not are -

Both Shadows tracks
Duane Eddy - Dance With the Guitar Man

The Duane Eddy track is very poor compared the the original.
The rest of the cd - who knows ? could be remixes.

And why include "Time is Tight" ? A great track but, a 70's track mixed in with 60's ??? very odd !!
