Customer Reviews

Great collection of early rock and roll5
If you're lookin' for the best of early rock and roll, its driving rhythms, gloriously unpretentious (and often wildly humoristic) lyrics, and overall truly liberating sense of joyfulness, this collection is all you'll need and will keep you busy for a long time indeed. Alongside well-known songs by the likes of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard et. al., this collection also includes many lesser known singles, such as Neil Sedaka's 'I go Ape' with its wonderfully tantalizing intro, and 'The fool,' achingly beautifully sung by Sanford Clark. If 50s rock and roll and rhythm and blues is your thing, you can't go wrong on this one.

This album really is top of the pops5
I cannot describe just how much I have enjoyed this collection, and I highly recommend it.
As a child I spent many happy hours stacking up my parents' late 50s and early 60s singles onto a real record player (not a tarty modern 'turntable'), and for ages I searched for a CD compilation that not only included the tracks I remembered, but also captured the musical spirit of the times.
Although I had not heard of many of the 101 tracks on this album before buying it, I now listen to all of it constantly. I defy anyone to get bored of this, covering as it does a great variety of different musical styles from the mid 50s to the early 60s.
Even Cliff Richard is great!
My children also love dancing and singing along to many of the songs, which they have never done when we put Radiohead on.

Ideal for a rock 'n' roll fan - and worth the wait for a release5
I couldn't believe it when my prayers were answered for EMI to release 101 Rock 'N' Roll Hits in their "101" series of CD sets.

I am a huge fan of the Elvis era (and Elvis himself amongst others) and I was chuffed to receive this 4 CD Set as a birthday gift. It contains well known classics such as Jailhouse Rock, Summertime Blues, (We're Gonna) Rock Around The Clock, At The Hop, Whole Lotta Shakin & C'mon Everybody sung by Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Bill Haley & Jerry Lee Lewis etc.

While you have some rarities & obscurities such as Jim Dandy, Do You Wanna Dance, Let The Good Times Roll, Raunchy, Brand New Cadillac, Pretty Little Angel Eyes, Cincinnati Fireball, Just Like Eddie, The Cruel Sea & A Shot of Rhythm & Blues sung by LaVern Baker, Bobby Freeman, Shirley & Lee, Vince Taylor, Curtis Lee, Johnny Burnette, Heinz & Johnny Kidd etc.

And then you have the odd Doo-Wop selection with artists such as Little Anthony & The Imeperials, The Flamingos, The Five Satins, Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs, The Showmen etc.

So you get a mixed bag of stuff on this CD set and i'd recommend this for any Rock 'n' Roll fan, it is a must have!
