Get over your winter blues5
I'd all but forgotten about this album - Summer '08 seems such a long time ago now. But in an effort to overcome our gloomy winter and dark afternoons, I decided to dig Serve Chilled from the dust and have a listen. I'm so glad I did. Highlights on cd1 include tracks from Groove Armada and Jose Gonzales. This reminds me of perfect hot days in the summer son, and forgetting yourself in the melodic, chilled yet upbeat and uplifting sounds of Hed Kandi at its very best. Cd2 isn't as strong but the quality remains and keeps this album a 5* release. I'm in no doubt that this album won't be for everyone, but if you love summer and laid back sunny listening, then I can definitely recommend this to you!

Almost there4
My mouse hovered over the fifth star for more than a minute as I tried to decide what to give this album. In the end it clicked on the 4. A five would have required Walked Out This Morning & Drive to be included on another compilation, perhaps the top 10 of worst lift tunes.
The rest though is sheer chill out heaven - a mixture of melancholy, sentimentalism, hope, excitement and anticipation delivered in true HK style.
24 tracks made it my ipod. A success rate not seen since Beach House 2006. The bar is back where it belongs. Well done HK.

Enjoyable but a bit insipid3
When I first listened to this I thought it was total mulch, with one soulless, uncharismatic tune flowing another. It did improve with time, but it seems that chillout as a genre is gradually dying through lack of inspiration. While this is one of the better chillout albums around at the moment, that's not saying much. The days of classics tracks like American Dream, Fragment Two...The First Picture and Down By the Sea feel long gone, and now you've got tunes that wouldn't never have made it onto the old albums, like the irritatingly ersatz Drive and the cringingly trite Love Calls. The album starts well with Groove Armada's fantastic Paris, and then continues on a rather uninspiring low boil.
