Customer Reviews
its ok
i like this album althoigh i do think ashanti is a better album. my fav tune is shine, the way that I love you is also really good. I think it could have been better having had some more feel good tunes that are upbeat. If your expecting this album to be as good as her last one you may be dissapointed. all in all quite a good album with a few hits on
The Declaration
I've never really been a fan of ashanti's music i've heard her first three albums i did not like them i've heard this album and i love it! her best so far my favorite tracks one the album are the way that i love you you're gonna miss so over you and the declaration and i like the rest i give this a 10/10 must buy! it's a pity that this album has gone to #119 in the uk albums chart but on the bright side it's #6 in the usa!
Solid, consistant album
It's been almost 4 years since we heard anything from Ashanti. With decreasing sales and singles peaking lower and lower in the charts this album needs to reverse the trend. Overall this album is pretty solid. With her 2nd and 3rd albums, there were a few really great stand-out tracks but the most of the albums were not great. The Declaration may be missing an amazing lead-off track but each track is good so looking at the album over-all, it is a lot better than many other albums out there at the minute.
The Declaration has a slightly different feel to it than Ashanti's previous albums due, in part, to the fact that this is the first album that has an entire new set of producers. Seven Aurelius (responsible for most of Ashanti's biggest hits) produces 2 tracks, 'The Things You Make Me Do, a sensual mid-tempo duet with Robin Thicke and 'The Declaration' one of the stand-out tracks on the album, combining a drum beat and a string arrangement. Pretty different to what's out there ta the minute New producers include Rodney Jerkins who produces another of the albums stand-outs 'So Over You' a beat-heavy mid-tempo about being fed-up with you partner. Jermaine Dupri produces another mid-tempo which has a very catchy melody which keeps the track on repeat. Akon is on board with potential second single 'Body On Me' a catchy, summery, feel-good song with Nelly. Long-time ballad producer Babyface produces 'Mother', a ballad about Ashanti's mother (not surprisingly). New producer L.T. Hutton produces 4 tracks, lead single 'The Way That I Love You' and another of the albums stand-outs 'You're Gonna Miss' which uses the popular vocorder effect.
Overall this album is a lot more 'together' than Ashanti's previous albums and definately shows that her vocals have improved even more. The album is mostly made up of mid-tempo's (both beat heavy, and lighter ones) with 2 ballads/down-tempos. The album is lyrically a lot tighter than most of the other R&B out there at the minute. The only down-side is that the album is missing that obvious, killer lead single which may affect sales, atleast in the short term but don't be put off by this. The album is still full of music which is great and just different enough to consider buying even if you're already getting your female R&b fix from Rihanna or Beyonce as this album has a different feel to it. It is doubtful that this album will return Ashanti to her former a status in the charts but that will have little to do with the musics quality and more to do with poor lead single choice and late promo!!
