Synopsis
Maybe most wouldn't compare wrestling to fine wine--but the truth is that the classic matches do get better with age. Collected here are two compilations featuring some of the greatest warriors to ever battle on the WWE stage, and each confrontation is proof that great matches are timeless. The main event at JUDGEMENT DAY saw The Undertaker take on Kane with Steve Austin as a guest referee. In ROCK BOTTOM, Corporate Champion, The Rock, brings 'em down in this event named after him. See him take on Mankind in the Championship Match. But the REAL one to see is the Buried Alive Match, in which The Undertaker tries to turn Stone Cold Steve Austin into worm food! Here comes the People's Eyebrow!

Jumps Straight Into It3
Just a quick note, I havnt seen the original 'Judgment Day 1998' VHS release, so im sure exactly how it started, but this in this Tagged Classic reelase, it jumps straight to the Al Snow match. No opening highlights or flashbacks or title sequence.

It also does the same thing for Rock Bottom. No opening titles. Straight into the Val Venis match...

These two events happened in october and december 1998 respectively, they are two events that dont appear that good when i rewatch them,if i cut to the chase i have to say in judgement day there isnt one match that can actually be called good and that isnt acceptable, rock bottom is a better pay per view but contains some very obvious filler.
Judgement day opens up with marc mero going up against al snow, this was a boring match from the get go,there was no spark at all and the crowd knew it and the match died as a result.
A six man tag featured next as the D.O.A and paul ellering went up against the legion of doom and droz or was it just the legion of doom, surely droz doesnt rank as a member, anyway, this was pure trash,it really was bad, neither team had a clue what was going on and everything looked poor and forced,a let down.
The WWF light heavyweight championship was up next as the champ taka went up against christian in one of his first matches. This was fairly good, suffered a little in the middle but this can be deemed without any hesitation as the first decent match of the night.
Val venis and goldust locked horns next in a solid enough match,it did run out of steam even if the athletes didnt, and we all had enough of this before it ended,it did feature some good spots though.
The european championship was defended next as the champ d-lo brown went up against x-pac,this match should have been better than it was,it featured some good moves at times and the counter move at the end has to be seen but it didnt flow that well and as i rightly state this match should have been better.
The headbangers fought the new age outlaws in a match that went on a bit, again there was the odd good moment in it but we were overfed here as this match got boring.
The intercontiental championship was defended next, the champ ken shamrock went up against mankind, this match was pretty good, both men put in a great shift and i was impressed with most of it but yet again it did get boring.
Mark henry fought the rock next in a poor match with an outcome that few expected,i suppose that wasnt a bad thing but,i do sound like a stuck record, this match got dull and there was some botched moves so watch carefully.
The undertaker and kane fought for the vacant WWF championship next, stonecold was the guest ref. This match was good enough but to be fair it wasnt the best that these two wrestlers would have but at the same time it wasnt the worst, the ending was good and a good glance at the attitude era in full motion so worth a peek with that in mind.
The next dvd in this tagged classic is an event inspired by the rock,im sure he was proud, but i doubt if he loved the entire event,i know that i didnt.
The event opened with a tag team matchval venis and the godfather went up against d-lo brown and mark henry. This match was fairly good and marks itself as a good enough opener,it didnt drag, featured some good wrestling and the crowd were warmed up after it.
Another tag match followed featuring the headbangers going up against kurrgan and golga,i have to be honest and say this was fought at a sedating pace,it was poor and dull and flopped big time.
Owen hart fought steve blackman next, owen was a heel in the usa at this time but this event was in canada and they were loving him and the match started as bright as a button, the ending was very odd,but i liked this match, blackman was in good form also.
The job squad fought the brood in a six man tag next and here we get our first real classic of the night, everything worked here and the crowd loved it,the wrestlers bust a gut and i was very impressed in particular with scorpio who was on fire on this night.
Jeff jarrett fought goldust next in an acceptable match,i wasnt expecting much but i was treated to some good moves and a good pace, but then again i did get a little jaded as the match rattled on.
The tag team titles featured next as the holders, the new age outlaws went up against ken shamrock and the big bossman in a poor match, the chemistry wasnt there and it died very early on.
The rock, the WWF champ went up against mankind next, this was a brutal match and enjoyable, better was to come as they locked horns in an unforgettable match at the royal rumble which followed, this match wasnt as good but did feature enough great moments to be regarded as a bout worth revisiting.
A buried alive match was up next, the undertaker going up against stonecold steve austin. This match was very good,i wasnt dazzled by it but it was savage enough and pretty nasty at times and we all knew it would take something to get one of these two men into the ground and indeed it did,a good match.
These two dvds on one release makes for good value but you may not love all you see,2 stars is the best i can do.
