Editorial Reviews

The Guardian
There are a number of reasons for loving this record. One is its innate eager and open tunefulness, another is its powerfully uplifting, entirely groovy pop psych vibes and one more is the shoehorned-in phased guitar squiggles which bubble up and shoot through the canopy of the chorus with what can only be described as gay abandon. Oh, and I forgot to mention the bit near the end where about 300 voices join together to push the already fairly well-worn button marked good times' so hard it jams and you feel like, "Well, maybe I'll have to live inside this record for ever". That's how good it is.

Album Description
Although they spent last year cheering up sodden festival crowds with their lush harmonies and crafty way with a psychedelic pop hook, 'Things That Roar' is young Manchester band The Beep Seals' debut album. Produced by Teenage Fanclub legend Norman Blake, 'Things That Roar' has been compared to The Beach Boys, The Stone Roses and The Zombies by magazines like NME and Q, but really there's no-one else like them. Out on June 23, your summer won't be the same without this.

Tell Your Friends...5
Having been a massive fan of beep seals guitarist Ian Smiths Former band Alfie, i knew as soon as i heard he was involved in a new band it was gonna be pretty good."everything apart from a beach" was how Ian Brown described Manchester but try walking round town with this on your headphones and you will think there is a beach on every corner. If i were to describe the sound of this album id say it sounded like Brian Wilson had stumbled upon the music for an unrecorded flaming lips album, set up the beach boys equipment & then got the Olivia Tremor Control to play the music while letting Badly Drawn Boy do some guest spots & then getting Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub to produce (the last bit is actually true). So while manchester will never have a beach, its now got its very own beach boys.

Creativity Unfettered5
Things That Roar is a classic and definitely one of the best debut albums of any band to date. The Beep Seals is a group in a zone that most people, most musicians even, would not dare to dream of. Creativity unleashed and unfettered. If you only buy one album this year make sure it is Things That Roar.
