Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Re-released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release, Destiny was the Jackson's first platinum album, and the first where they were allowed input in the writing and producing processes. The album's success was largely due to the popularity of the two lead singles, 'Blame It On The Boogie', and 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)'. 'Destiny' was one of Michael's last albums with the Jackson before embarkingon a full-time solo career.

Remastered? ... No, just re-released.2
I was quite excited by seeing the 2008 Remaster version of Destiny, as it holds a selection of classic Jacksons tracks not readily available elsewhere in recent mix quality (Things I Do For You, Bless His Soul, Shake Your Body (full length version)).

Upon listening to this, I immediately noticed that the mix was unusually low and dull compared to the recent 2001 Remasters of Michael Jacksons solo releases (which have excellent sound). Upon looking it and comparing the files of the new release to my old CD version of Destiny, it soon got quite apparant that this is in fact not a Remaster but simply a re-release of the exact same mixes, with the only difference being that the volume is nudged slightly up and a couple of remixes are added (those are not 12" mixes btw., but Disco mixes).

I must admit I'm sorely dissapointed with this and feal greatly cheated by this re-issue which is promoted by Amazon to be a Remaster - and although this is not explicitely stated on the package (which is simply labeled as 30 Anniversary edition) it seems like a very concious strategy by the record company in the light of all the recent re-masters of the Jackson solo catalogue.

Destiny is of course still a good record, but if you have the old CD version, there's absolutely no need to host up the extra bucks to get this new version unless you're just dying to get those remixes.

shake your body !3
Destiny was the jacksons 3rd album for epic records.Originally released in 1978 this was to be the first album solely written and produced by the brothers. After leaving motown, they signed for epic in 76 and released the jacksons and Goin places LP's..both albums largelly prod by philly producers Gamble and Huff, both albums featured several self written songs..this was a test to see if their own material was as good as the songs being written for them...fortunately mostly they were, so it was decided that this album would see the bros doing it for themselves if you were !

Ironically first single blame it on the boogie was not written my michael jackson but a mick jackson ! no this is not michaels name shortened but another man altogether. Boogie was released the year before and the artist was mick jackson who had a hit in the u.k with it..most people see witten by M jackson and assume it was written by michael..well it wast folks!

Destiny is a patchy album..not nearly as good as Triumph which was to be their masterpiece 2 years after this, but nevertheless Destiny does feature the aforementioned Blame it on the Boogie,Shake your body down to the ground and the almost as good Things we do for you and All night dancin. The rest of the album is so so but it's worth getting for these essential tracks.

If you've only been into michales solo work then your missing out on some real gems from him on these albums.

Destined For Greatness5
This is definitely a classic Jacksons album, which has been given a 30th Anniversary makeover.I am sure that most people have heard the 2 big hits from this album Blame It On The Boogie and Shake Your Body(Down To The Ground)but this album contains so many songs which are not so well known, but which deserve a hearing, and as a bonus you get the full 12" mixes of Boogie and Shake which very rarely turn up on CD.
