CD Description
The follow up to 1978's 'Destiny', 1980's 'Triumph' was TheJackson's first album to hit the top of the Billboard R&B charts in eight years. 'Triumph' was extremely successful andwas supported by what is considered to be one of the greatest tours of the Eighties. This is the Jacksons at their peak. Though despite this, they would not make another studio album for four years

Quality!
Triumph was The Jacksons 4th album for Epic records. Originally released in 1980 the album was released in between Michaels Off the wall and Thriller albums. This is easily the jacksons best album..period ! the previous epic album "Destiny" saw the boys start to write and produce their own material..some of it succesful and some of it not but it was a worthy effort nonetheless and included the classics blame it on the boogie and shake your body down. Triumph however see the jackson bros fine tune their songwriting and production even further and the album has some of Michaels best songs outside his solo career. Heartbreak Hotel and Can you feel it are as good as anything he wrote and are masterpieces..notably michael performed heartbreak hotel on his bad tour in 1988 which he rarely performed any jacksons songs outside brief medlies. Michael sings lead vocals on all but 2 songs. Other highlights are the funk of "Lovely One" jackie jacksons sublimly written "your ways" "Give it up" and another michael classic in "walk right now"
If your new to the jacksons music and want to complete your collection after michaels untimely death then this is the album you should be picking up first.
Although not produced by Quincy jones the brothers production is excellent and features a lot of the session musicians that michael used for his solo work like Greg Phillinganes and Jerry Hey.
classic !
Not a REMASTER as Amazon claims, just a re-release.
Sadly, AMAZON lists the recent RE-RELEASES of Triumph and Destiny as REMASTERS, which THEY ARE NOT - unfortunately, as a quality remaster of these albums would be a great addition to the wonderful 2001 remasters from Michael Jacksons solo albums.
Thus, don't buy this album if you want an upgrade of your old CD version of Triumph. Except for an increase in sound volume, the mix is the same, and hence you won't get anything you didn't already have, apart from a couple of remixes.
That being said, if you DON'T own Triumph already, this album holds a number of classic hits (Can You Feel It, Lovely One, This Place Hotel) and more importantly what is now two forgotton gems that are easily the best tracks Michael ever recorded with his brothers and on par with and even better than most of his solo material from the next decade - namely the wonderful groovy 'Walk Right Now' and the breathtaking 'Time Waits For No One' - the latter featuring what is perhaps the most beautiful vocal from Michael and one of the best vocal arrangements in pop history. The rest of the album might be plain, and it is, but these 5 tracks alone easily makes it worth your money several times over.
I think it's a bit of a disgrace that Amazon refrains to change the item description of these re-releases, when all they need to do is look at the sticker on front of the CD to see that they are re-releases and not re-masters.
An old fave
Bought this on vinyl when it first came out and yes still got it, but so glad now to have it on cd.Brilliant.
