Customer Reviews
The best headphones I have owned.
I have honestly owned so many headphones you would think I was mad. Obviously these should only be classed against other over-ear headphones for audiophile/recording/monitoring use. I use mine purely for musical enjoyment, though I have been told they are the headphone of choice in the music industry too - though I cannot vouch for this.
The headphones are well packaged/presented, which means nothing I know, they are also well constructed and feel 'sturdy', which means only a little for me. Importantly the sound is exceptional...
I first listened to these in the Apple Store in Soho/NY to Kanye West - Stronger; a song and artist I despise. However, the quality of sound simply blew me away and I spent about 30-minutes in the shop listening to a variety of tracks. I FOOLISHLY did not but them for the $300 they retail for in the US. On returning to the UK and having tried them again in John Lewis, I decided to purchase from Apple Store in Kingston, London. Retail was £279 but I explained I had found them on the web for £229 so they sold to me for £249 and threw in 3-year guarantee.
Sound: Deep Bass, Pleasing treble, not tinny at all. Sounds engulfs you!
What good for: Nearly everything if you appreciate DETAIL - I've heard things in Fleet foxes, Beatiful South, Foo Fighters that I cannot pick out through other headphones.
What not good for: Classical - I would recommend Grado for the job here, where detail is in mid-tones, treble regions.
Comfort: 3-4 hours srints are not uncomfortble at all.
Battery: Changed after ~200 hours listening.
Sound cancellation: Not important to me at all, but it seems to cancel out white noise, general background noise well.
Sound enclosure: Not great, sounds will be heard by those around you with iPod volume >60%.
Carry Case: Sturdy and well worth taking on travel.
Summary: If you can get these closer to £200 than £300 do buy them. If you like a powerful sound there is no other choice at all.
Monster Beat Monster Let Down
I just wanted to write a very short and sweet review to anyone who is considering spending £270 on these headphones. There is an incredible ammount of hype about them and when i got them for christmas i just couldnt wait to tear the wrapper off. However i was very dissapointed when i found that these hugely hyped " Massive Bass" headphones are actually not as good as my bose on ears which cost me almost three times less.
I would say if your looking for an amazing pair of headphones then the bose on ears all the way. Monster beats are too designer for my liking and are more about looks and glamour than the actual music.
The thing i do like about the beats though is the sound cancelling, it is very good, however i have not have tried bose quiet comforts or any other noise cancelling headphones i cant really compare them to anything else.
Great headphones but a little to pricey for my liking and theres others that are much better for much much less.
Dr Dre Beats Rule
These headphone are truely the best, The sound that comes out of them is really clear, yeah I do admint that to have the full experience you will need to have your tracks at 340kbps or higher. As alot of my 128kbps - 256kps just sound average and to compressed (which they are). I only had these headphones to use with my Nokia N82, I did find that sound coming from me N82 sounded much better than me Ipod touch, Believe it or not, Music sounded much fuller and more bass.
But anyway, Yes these are very pricey, I managed to get mine for £170 but i would have paid £280 the retail price if i had to, the reason i got them was more down to the fact they had "Dr Dre" name on them not to how good they were. (although they are alot better than expected)
One problem i do have, is that when using the handsfree wire the headphones constatly click (sound comming out of the headphones) so i dont understand why it does this, Might just be down to my Nokia N82.
Also as time is going on im finding the folding hindges are getting looser every week, But i do use them for more that 4 hours every single day.
Oh another good thing, ive had them for about a month now, and only had to change the battarys onece.
Over all they are the best, i do not regret buying them, am tempted to but the in ear ones aswell now
Hope all this help
