Great fun game; everything i wanted5
Ignore the haters, this is a great game for anyone who enjoys a fun fighting game. the MK characters are great, and DC are even better IMO. Fatalities & Brutalities are excellent, the Jokers are just hilarious. Fast paced, Frantic action & Story mode really was alot of fun. Graphics are excellent, full 1080p, lovely job. If you can pick up the SE edition too, as the artwork booklet that come siwth it is great, and its not much more expensive.

Close...but no cigar3
C'mon...who can't not get excited about the prospect of this game? It's the video game version of car crash TV - the coming together of such differing personalities and brand images that you can't help but sit back, enjoy the carnage, and have a lot of fun. Sub Zero versus Superman? Scorpion versus Batman? Raiden versus Joker?

So why then is it a massive disappointment when I actually got to play it?

Well the combat is solid, the story mode is substantial and if you are a fan of either universe there is something here to enjoy. Unfortunately the lackluster finishing moves and lack of extras really hurt the overall experience, but if you are indeed looking for a game that pits two franchises full of beloved characters there is a lot to love here. The game is not a failure by any means, but you will find yourself asking for more or wanting to play other more fleshed out fighting games. Casual players will race through the storyline before getting stumped by one or two Kombo Challenges, while Mortal Kombat fans will have trouble accepting the toned down Fatalities and somewhat slower gameplay.

I had a blast initially playing the game, and but it is an inferior fighting game, no matter how oddly compelling it is to see two sets of fictional characters clash in such improbable circumstances. In short, this game's fun, but there's nothing beyond the whole "Wow, Batman's fighting Superman" first impression.

A very disappointing game that had so much potential2
While I was really excited to see the first installment of Mortal Kombat on the PS3 as well as the inclusion of DC characters, sadly the game not only did not live up to my expectations but is one I plan on returning just a day after buying.

Since I got the PS3 a year ago, very few games have managed to disappoint me that much and in fact, on the few occasions that I decided to rent a game over buying it, I ended up purchasing it in the end anyway even if I had already finished it just for the replay value. This is the first time I've really regretted spending so much money on a game and wishing I didn't have to take it back but knowing that I've had all the enjoyment out of it I possibly can.

The graphics are a barely noticeable improvement on what you'd expect from the PS2 and the animation is quite wooden (as I'd come to expect from MK games but hoped would have changed by now). Most of the moves are not only repetitive but make many characters barely distinguishable. The super moves are okay but not all that impressive.

In spite of the addition of a Story Mode (which is pretty much the only improvement on the franchise), the game lacks variety more than anything. There aren't even any alternative costumes to be unlocked, which is something that had by now become standard in the genre. It doesn't feel like there are that many characters or stages and within an hour of playing you'll feel like you're no longer exploring new things.

What a shame because I really looked forward to this game and usually if I set my mind to liking a game, I'm guaranteed to enjoy it. Sadly, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't help but feel a bit cheated with this.

If you're looking for a good fighting game for the PS3, get Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm which is much superior to this and guaranteed to provide many more hours of fun - after 8 hours of gameplay I'm still seeing new things and have a few more characters to unlock!
