Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Essentially the very holy grail of L.A. soft pop, this 1968 album is a must own for fans of this highly collectable genre.

Produced by the legendary Tommy LiPuma, the album was largely co-written by Roger with Paul Williams (his future co-writer on scads of 1970's megahits) and Tony Asher (fresh from his collaboration with Brian Wilson on Pet Sounds); sung by Roger with Murray and Melinda MacLeod and backed by a virtual Who's Who of California pop of the time with such luminaries as Lenny Waronker, Van Dyke Parks, Bruce Botnick and Randy Newman.

Includes full involvement from Roger Nichols and songwriting partner Paul Williams and new interviews on the album with collaborators Van Dyke Parks, Lenny Waronker and Randy Newman.

Never before on CD in Europe or the US, with some tracks not appearing since their original single releases. Also includes Roger's first single, ‘St. Bernie the Sno-Dog’, for the first time ever on CD or anywhere for that matter!

Lavish booklet features rare photos, label repro’s, a full sessionography and the liner notes tell the full Roger Nichols story as never told before!

Mastered to sound fantastic, packaged to look fabulous and with many never seen photos and full involvement from the artist and friends; this is the supreme Soft-Rock collectable in the DeLuxe form that fans have been longing for!

Customer Reviews

A Masterpiece!!5
Playing this wonderful album will benifit your life, I promise. It will release you from any small discomforts you may have, and transport you to an imaginary 1960's californian sun-soaked world. Oh yes, it's that good. Dreamy melodies and harmonies colide and melt the senses. 'Kinda wasted without you' is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Yes, to the cynical it may appear slightly twee, but I believe in that holds it's charm. Embrace it. If you are new to the sunshine-pop genre, welcome friend, dont be scared. You might as well start at the very top with this album..enjoy!

As good as the content description5
It sounds and looks fantastic - beautifully remastered with bonus tracks of practically everything this particular incarnation recorded, along with truly extensive liner notes and great photos. A revelation of glorious sunshine pop.

Description and Reviews are for the 1968 Album which this is Not!3
This is a very nice album, but beware this is *not* a '60's album (save for the demo bonus tracks)! Instead it is a *contemporary* recording of songs Roger wrote in the '60s. While it is a great album in it's own right, any fan of West Coast pop buying this album thinking this will be another criminally ignored collection of pop-gems like the "Small Circle of Friends" will feel slightly swizzed! Not that the songs are weak, far from it, "Let me be the One" for instance is amazing, but the modern production is too perfect, and lacks the dirty edge of the 1968 material. That said, the more I play it the more I love it, "Drifter" and "Talk it over in the Morning" are glorious! Upped to 4 **** Amazon, please fix the erroneous items!
