Jeff Beck Magically Enthralls London Audiences !
Jeff Beck enthralled London audiences at Ronnie Scotts jazz club for almost an entire week in late 2007. I am fortunate to have the concert CD when he was joined by Eric Clapton to perform two blues numbers. In the audience were Jimmy Page and Brian May. Beck's continuing mastery of the guitar is astonishing. He combines incomparable technique with a heavenly feel for nuance while demonstrating a supernatural utilization of the fretboard and pickup controls. This CD is a dazzling display of the most invigorating, innovative, and jazz rock guitar exhibited in years augmented by a few mindblowing hard rock gems. Song highlights include "Led Boots", "Nadia", "Beck's Bolero",the frenetic "Scatterbrain", the emotive "Angels" and the inimitable "Where Were You". Jeff Beck's majestic rendition of " A Day In The Life" has rightfully been nominated for a Grammy Award for best instrumental performance. Jeff Beck is God's guitarist. This CD is an imperative purchase for all guitar fans and guitarists. Jeff Beck can strangle and caress a universe of sounds from his instrument to the amazement of his many peers and fans.
This was the best gig ever
I, too, was there on that very night - and feature in the programme - giving a standing ovation following Imogen Heap's contribution. - Wow!! Truly a night to remember and featuring his best work. A virtuoso performance by a musician who expresses his soul through the instrument and inspires others around him to do likewise. Breathtaking and memorable, my trip from Manchester was rewarded by front seats at the side, behind Jason Rebello. He, Tal Wilkenfeld and Vinnie Colaiuta clearly revelled in the fantastic atmosphere, all four musicians feeding off each other. It was sheer joy, exhilarating.. you get the drift, I enjoyed it.

Wow - that was a surprise!
For some reason my appreciation of guitarists from Bensusan to Zappa missed out on Jeff Beck, so I hadn't understood what the fuss was all about. Having watched "Jeff beck Live at Ronnie Scott's" on BBC4 I now understand - how could I have missed him out for so long?
With a tone that sounds in places a bit like Derek Trucks (is it the finger/thumb technique?)- but mostly is simply unique, I was totally blown away. I've worn out my broadband link watching this on iPlayer so now I simply have to buy the DVD!
