Album Description
Are you ready for an assault on Pepper!?
AVID Jazz here presents four classic Art Pepper albums on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. `The Return Of Art Pepper', `Modern Art', `Quartet' and `Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section' which is heard here for the first time in a natural stereo soundstage.
Art Pepper was born in Gardena, California in 1925 and started his musical career playing the clarinet at age 9. However the young lad was extremely unhappy with this instrument and by age 12 and to the benefit of all jazz fans he had moved on to the alto sax! Early idols included Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and Muggsy Spanier and he would be influenced by Lester Young, Johnny Hodges and Ben Webster from whom he would discover his love of the great jazz ballad . Known primarily as being from the West Coast Cool School as featured on three of our albums, we are delighted to include the classic `Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section' where Art is joined by three East Coasters, namely Miles Davis' old rhythm section Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones.
All four albums have been digitally re-mastered for probably the finest sound quality ever!

Classic Art Bargain!5
This album has to be one of the bargains of the year. Art Pepper swings his way through 80 minutes of superb jazz from four of his mid to late fifties albums. Accompanied on three albums by the finest musicians from the US West Coast and on one by the 1956 Miles Davis rhythm section of Red Garland, Paul Chambers & Philly Joe Jones, he plays a variety of music, from originals to blues to ballads. He is the only modern musician I've heard play the New Orleans traditional tune - Tin Roof Blues.
I can recommend every track and the insert notes are very informative with full personnel and recording dates. Just get online and get it!!

Joy to the ears!4
Art Pepper is such a talented and smooth sax player, producing one of the best sounds. Although he perhaps does not get the same recognition as some of the other jazz greats, he is pure musical genius. Great to listen to if you a serious fan or if you just want to tune into some great jazz.

catching up4
this package which combines four of the earlier albums by this superb artist enables collectors to catch up with music they may have missed when it was first issued....It offers good value for money....williet
