Beautiful: One Of Her Best
I first bought this album on vinyl in the '80's and I've always thought that it was one of her best. It's hard to believe that it was ever recorded in a hurry as it sounds so well crafted, and I had no idea that Kate now supposedly dislikes 'Oh England, My Lionheart', which is one of my favourite Kate Bush tracks. I've bought this again on CD since and it's still great: full of atmospheric, intelligent, thought-provoking, emotional and beautiful songs. Kate is a multi-talented performer, both musically and visually, and something of a genius. Her music brings back wonderful memories and it's a shame that we don't hear more from her. EMI could put out a compilation of B sides/extra tracks which so far have only been available in the 'This Woman's Work' box set. It would also be nice to see stuff like 'The Whole Story' video re-released onto DVD. Well, in the meantime, there's still Kate's older material to listen to and fall in love with, as the fantastic Lioheart proves. Enjoy.
Why can't more solo artists be like Kate
It frustrates me that artists like Kate Bush don't get talked about now or played on the radio. It's now all about dance routines and shallow songs written by office-habiting song writers.
This album show what is possible when a talented person makes music without be constrained by PR and marketing men. My favourites from this album include 'Wow', 'Oh England...' and 'Kashka from Baghdad'. Time just seems to fly when listening to this album. I recently listened to it on a train journey across Holland, and in my opinion it ideally suits that sort of setting: beautiful scenery, relaxing, and looking at this world we live in.
OK there are a couple of songs, which, for me didn't hit the right notes, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. But I think if you appreciate talent and someone not taking the marketing/commercial option, but instead follwoing their creative instincts - Buy this album.
One of my favourite Kate albums!
This is a simply astonishing album, one of Kate's best. Songs like 'wow', 'In search of Peter pan', 'Don't push your foot on the heartbrake' and 'hammer horror' show how original and exciting Kate's music is. Although it was made in the time of 2 months you certainly wouldn't know it and in fact it makes the album even more astonishing! In parts the songs are reminiscent of both 'kick inside' and 'never for ever', but songs like 'Symphony in blue' are slightly different to Kate's other work but still hauntingly beautiful. Like all of Kate's albums you need an open mind and a good imagination, listen to it 5 or 6 times and you'll fall in love, and realise what a work of genius it is!! Forget Britney Spears, this is worth your hard earned money! It'll make you feel glad to be alive!
