CD Description
Despite a massive roster of engineers, mixers, and producers, the NOTORIOUS soundtrack is a remarkable capsule synopsisof the legendary the Notorious B.I.G.'s career. Every big hit is here, be it "Juicy", "Hypnotize", or "Warning", and they're all left mercifully unfettered by unnecessary remixes or new vocal contributions. Also included are a few new, tasteful posthumous collaborations, like the Santogold-spiced "Brooklyn Go Hard". But it's the totally raw, utterly early-'90s New York street demos of "Microphone Murder" and "Gangster Raw" that blow this collection's value out of the water, and make it an essential part of B.I.G.'s bulletproof canon.

I was a terror since the public school era
`Notorious' is the soundtrack to the film of the same name, documenting the life of Biggie Smalls. This soundtrack has most of his classic singles such as "Hypnotise", "Big Poppa", "One More Chance" and "Notorious B.I.G". but the thing that attracted me most to buying this CD is the previously rare demos such as "Party And Bull S---", "Microphone Murderer" and "Guaranteed Raw" that I have been searching for for years.
Although a majority of the album is performed by Biggie, the standout track on the CD for me would have to be the new and exclusive Jay-Z tune featuring Santogold "Brooklyn Go Hard" produced by Kanye West which is absolutely incredible!
Overall if you're a Biggie fan there is no doubt you're going to love this, especially for the rare tracks and if you're a fan of hip hop in general and don't own his other albums this is essential.
Better than it has any right to be.
Ah, the movie soundtrack. Inevitably a cash-in but just occasionally magnificent, they are far from a noble genre. So you wouldn't expect the official soundtrack to a mediocre film (about possibly the greatest ever rapper)to be worth more than a glance. You'd be wrong.
One of the big problems with being a completist when you're a fan of a rapper is that so many of them feature on other people's records, release standalone 12" singles and put out mixtapes that if you're a latecomer, sometimes these are impossible to find.
And it's for this reason that far from just being a movie soundtrack, Notorious is a worthy addition to your CD collection. As well as housing a good number of Biggie's greatest songs, it also features a number of rarer recordings. The three demos closing out the compilation are listenable, but not essential (although they show how fully formed Biggie's skill was so early on). However, the inclusion of the magnificent early single 'Party and Bulls**t', as well as the Stay With Me remix of 'One More Chance,' mean this compilation is for more than just the completists and fans for the movie.
