CD Description
On ELECTRIC LADYLAND Jimi Hendrix stretched and experimented in the studio, going beyond the power-trio format on what would be his last studio album with the Experience. ELECTRICLADYLAND was revolutionary in its scope and execution. Using New York City's Record Plant as a gateway to free expression, Hendrix traversed an abstract landscape containing compositions as weird and wonderful as "...And The Gods Made Love" and "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)".
Simultaneously looking forwards and backwards, Hendrix mixed in a songreminiscent of his time on the chitlin' circuit (Earl King's "Come On [Part 1]"), a Bob Dylan favorite ("All Along The Watchtower"), and one of his snappiest singles ("Crosstown Traffic"). Although Hendrix produced and wrote most of this masterpiece, others weighed in with their own contributions. Noel Redding penned "Little Miss Strange", and other guests such as Al Kooper and Buddy Miles showed up to play. Traffic's Steve Winwood and Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane also made cameos, appearing on this classic album's spiritual center, "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)".

Great 40th Anniversary edition5
Most people will know about Jimi's classic Electric Ladyland album but I would imagine that many are more interested in the DVD content. Its not the Classic Album DVD but a new documentary, circa 90 minutes long with archive footage, and interviews from different eras with the main protagonists in the Jimi Hendrix Story. Some of the Classic Album footage is within the content but there's enough of interest to make getting this collectors edition worthwhile, in my opinion.

Money and fools (me)1
Electric Ladyland is a brilliant album. 6 stars out of 5 etc

The DVD _is_ the Classic Rock making of Electric Ladyland, but with weaker sub editing, it's not bad, just not worth adding to your collection if you have Classic Rock

1 star, because I feel cheated

Surround sound too3
Jimi was keen on playing around with studio effects and stuff like quadrophonic. Here the cd is remastered and there`s a surroundd sound mix.Just as Jimi would have wanted.Well done Hendrix Family.5 stars, not 3
